Instructor Ian Stewart is a professional trainer and an honorably discharged soldier in the Mississippi Army National Guard, having served in Afghanistan. Ian is an NRA Certified Pistol Instructor, Chief Range Safety Officer, and has been certified by the State of Mississippi to teach the necessary course to obtain the enhanced endorsement for the Mississippi Fi****ms Permit (also known as “enhanced concealed carry permit”). His extensive, world-class training in fi****ms includes proficiency in pistol, rifle, and fully-automatic fi****ms. Ian grew up in Gulfport. Ian offers his fi****ms expertise to each client. His military training and service provides a unique set of fi****ms skills worth sharing. Instructor Jason Savarese is a professional trainer, author, and attorney in Gulfport, who brings his 25 years of fi****ms experience and legal knowledge to the classroom and gun range to assist the public in becoming more comfortable and proficient with the use of fi****ms, as well as the laws that govern their legal use and carry. NRA FIRST Steps Pistol Course

FIRST stands for “Firearm Instruction, Responsibility, and Safety Training”. The FIRST Steps program is an abbreviated version of the Basic Pistol course that is broken down to the most fundamental shooting skills, and the specifics of a particular model of pistol, and generally runs about 4 hours. This class is recommended for youths ages 5-16. NRA Basic Pistol Course

As part of its Basic Pistol Course, Center Mass teaches the basic knowledge, skills, and attitude for owning and operating a pistol safely. This course is at least 8-hours long and includes classroom and range instruction to shoot revolvers and semi-automatic pistols. Students learn NRA’s rules for safe gun handling; pistol parts and operation; ammunition; shooting fundamentals; range rules; shooting from the bench rest position, the two handed standing positions; cleaning the pistol; and continued opportunities for skill development. Students who complete the Basic Pistol Course will receive the NRA Guide to the Basics of Pistol Shooting handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure, Winchester/NRA Marksmanship Qualification booklet; a “Basic Practical” patch rocker, and a course completion certificate. Mississippi Enhanced Fi****ms Permit Course

In accordance with Section 97-37-7 of the Mississippi Code 1972, Annotated:

“….A person licensed under Section 45-9-101 to carry a concealed pistol, who has voluntarily completed an instructional course in the safe handling and use of fi****ms offered by an instructor certified by a nationally recognized organization that customarily offers fi****ms training, or by any other organization approved by the Department of Public Safety, shall also be authorized to carry weapons in courthouses except in courtrooms during a judicial proceeding, and any location listed in subsection (13) of Section 45-9-101, except any place of nuisance as defined in Section 95-3-1, any police, sheriff or highway patrol station or any detention facility, prison or jail. The department shall promulgate rules and regulations allowing concealed pistol permit holders to obtain endorsement on their permit indicating that they have completed pistol the aforementioned course and have the authority to carry in these locations…..”

The aforementioned statute references what is commonly called the “enhanced endorsement to the Mississippi Fi****ms Permit” or the “enhanced concealed weapons permit”. This enhancement protects the bearer of such under law to carry their concealed weapon in places that were previously off-limits. Both Ian Stewart and Jason Savarese are certified by The State of Mississippi to award the certification needed to obtain the enhanced endorsement to the Mississippi Fi****ms Permit.

If you decide to intervene with strangers not you or someone you know, and you use your f1r3@rm, you better be extra sure of the situation. What you think you see may not be what’s really going on. An off-duty guard, who did not work at this shopping center, assumed a teen carrying a BB g()n on his way to return it to the store where he bought it, was a threat with a real g()n. He confronted the boy and his friends, and $h0t the teen. He’s being held on a $2 million bond, and may be charged with 2nd degree m()rd3r. While the teen would have been well-advised to place the BB g()n in a bag, to avoid the appearance of a mass $h00t1ng about to happen, concealed carriers have to be absolutely certain of their . Is it really a ? Would a reasonable person on a jury agree? You are responsible for every b()ll3t you fire.

“Why do you need to carry a g>n at church?” That’s a question we’ve been asked several times. Churches should be places where one feels safe. Where one IS safe. But like any other place, no publicly accessible place is truly safe or ”g>n free,” despite what signs, g>n grabbers, and politicians tell you.

If you wear a style OWB , please reconsider your choice. Many Federal and local law enforcement agencies have banned their use, due to the number of problems with the holster, ranging from debris getting inside the index finger-activated release and locking the f1r3@rm inside the holster so it can’t be drawn and used, to users firing rounds into their legs or feet when drawing. There are many better options, including the OWB Blackhawk Omnivore (reasonably priced) to the Safariland brand carried by most law enforcement. You carry for your safety and those around you, so make sure your holster is safe as well. If you can conceal carry, that is an even better option. 🌈

Squib loads are no joke. When you pull the trigger, and you don’t hear a"bang,” but instead a lesser sound. When that shot doesn’t sound, or feel, quite right, or when you hear a lighter-than-normal "bang," and/or feel lighter-than-normal recoil, it's possible you just had a squib load.

Squib loads happen when a cartridge whose propelling energy is less than necessary to push the projectile (bullet) out of the firearm’s barrel. That bullet is then snugly lodged between the chamber and the end of the muzzle-a condition that could cause you serious injury if you keep shooting. Firing another round behind the squib can’t push that bullet out of the barrrel. Yet, all of the hot gas and energy have to go somewhere. The result could be a destroyed firearm or worse: serious injury to the shooter’s hand.

What to do? First, pay close attention to how the recoil feels from your gun, and how it sounds (with ear protection on, of course). Anything out of the ordinary (see above) should cause you to stop shooting. Unload the firearm and then take it apart. ONLY when the barrel has been removed from the frame should you look to see if light is visible from the other end. Alternatively. Once the barrel is removed from the frame, stick a cleaning rod in the barrel. If you can’t put it all the way in the barrel, you might be hitting a squib. You’ll have to use a cleaning rod or strong wooden dowel and bang that stuck bullet out, using a hammer. Tap the bullet out from the closest end of the barrel to it.

To avoid squib loads, but only quality ammo and avoid reloads from untrained reloaders.
