Sorry I did not share this earlier. I have been doing a social media detox.

It has been a good bit since I have written, partially due to the hustle and bustle of working and transporting boys to and from school, activities, and sports, and mostly due to avoidance (rejection fear & negative self-talk). Many terrible things have been going on all over and I sometimes get stuck in the “What’s the point? Will it really make a difference?” mentality....

Thinking of each of you and wishing a Hoppy Easter to all.
I and wanted to post an update about current services.
Co-ACTive Families consists of myself with collaboration and support from Colorful Minds ABA, who have graciously agreed to my sharing of space and administrative assistance with. As many know, I have been one of very few clinical psychologists in the area doing child assessments and have been inundated with referrals for testing by Pediatricians across the coast. My administrative assistant and I have been working endlessly to try and get everyone scheduled within a reasonable time frame, which means I have been doing at least one case a day, sometimes more, each weekday mornings, on top of therapy cases in the afternoons.
I have had many express their amazement at how quickly they were able to get an appointment with me after calling other clinics as far away as Jackson and being told it was over a 6 month wait. This is because I am a bleeding heart and understand how important it is to receive proper diagnosis and treatment and I end up “squeezing” cases in.
Please be aware that although you might receive an appointment within a relatively short amount of time, it will likely take longer to receive the report. I have two boys of my own who are involved in sports and other school/afterschool related activities. It is very important that I be present for my family, as a mother and wife, which leaves limited time (or energy) for report writing. In addition, I need to prevent burnout. I am currently booked through May for assessments and there is a waitlist.
I have had many express gratitude for the evaluation, but understandably need support in how to best help their child (or themselves). Unfortunately, I do not have the capacity to take on any new therapy cases at this time, but I have been brainstorming creative ways in which I can still help. So, I created a Youtube channel to share the skills and strategies I teach in therapy. In addition, Colorful Minds and Co-ACTive Families will be providing social groups again and are looking to do parent classes/workshops in the future.
Our first social group will begin on Monday, April 25th at 5pm for ages 8-12. We will eventually add a teen group on Wednesdays at 5. Brooke Edmonds, RBT and grad student, will be assisting and we will work in posting videos for each topic on the channel using our fantastic role play skills :)
Again, I cannot express enough how grateful I am for this community. We will continue to grow and “do better” together, one ACT at a time.
Adult ADHD and Women What it looks like and why it is often overlooked.
I often stress the importance of learning to regulate our emotions to my young clients and explain how it looks why you see an adult have an outburst. Of course I will be referencing this.
I will also try to remember this when i notice negative emotions building inside.
Be Mindful of your emotions and steady yourself so the wave does not knock you over.
Will’s apology:
"My behaviour at last night's Academy Awards was unacceptable and inexcusable," Smith wrote. "Jokes at my expense are a part of the job but a joke about Jada's medical condition was too much for me to bear and I reacted emotionally.
"I would like to publicly apologize to you, Chris. I was out of line and I was wrong. I am embarrassed and my actions were not indicative of the man I want to be.

Does screen time often turn into mean time?
I’ve experienced more mean and scream with electronics than I care to admit.
Parents, I’m here for you. I believe we can adapt to the changing times and help our kids have screen time and be productive.

Do your child's meltdowns cause you to meltdown?
Do you feel like a broken record trying to get your kid to listen?
Well you are not alone. I hear these pleas each day in my practice AND then I get home and feel the pain from my boys.
But have no fear. We are going to Regulate!
Check out my video get answers to these burning questions.
What is self-regulation?
Why is it important?
How do I get my child to do it?

I want to express my gratitude to this community for all the support. It is truly an honor to be able to continue to serve and help as a civilian and to stand with you in this journey to better our families and lives here on the coast.

This could not have arrived at a more needed time.
I had to order it from a UK website because it will not be available in the US until August, but I could not wait.
Several years ago a group of my Air Force mental health colleagues invited me to a book club for The Happiness Trap and it was a game changer for me both clinically and personally. I have experienced the effectiveness of the Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) model firsthand and have loved all of Russ Harris’s books. I happy to be able to share these skills with those I work with, as well as family and friends.
