āThe Wormā. I purchased the 7.0 size. Itās used to massage the fascia and break up the congested tissues.
My scoliosis training recommends it only be used within the concavities but my client base like to use it all over.
Put it up against a wall at various heights and diagonals, back up against it and roll away.
Yeap, Yeap, Yeapā¦. Unmuck the muck and feel great!
All part of the formula for your own home practice to manage your scoliosis and better yet, with your own self discipline, halt and even (yes indeed this is true!!!), decrease the curvature(s).

If you have what are you doing to maintain your leg strength?
After the age of 50.....
FACT - you loose 1/2% of bone density per year. As woman, we all know this - part of the aging process and levels of estrogen dropping....ugh...
Added to that research fact and totally unacceptable to my quality of life as I age, is all of us (men and women alike)
FACT - loose 1% of leg strength per year.
That's where bicycling comes in - low impact, great heart healthy activity that builds leg and core strength while being in the great outdoors.
Walking is great but you need more resistance on the bone structure of the pelvis, femur, tibia, smaller fibula and talus to maintain these bones to be healthy and strong.
FACT - if you do nothing to manage your scoliosis, research proves the curve(s) increase by 1% per year.

Squatting when you have Scoliosis
I was demonstrating this at a recent workshop I hosted.
POV - I like this squat the best vs a standing to squat in a spine that has scoliosis
- your pelvis is squared,
- your curvatures are padded
- your powerhouse is on
- your strengthening the quads, gluts, abdominals
Love this cross strapped version - itās gets more glut medius, a primary hip abductor that most definitely is weakened when you have scoliosis.
Strengthen glut med to address that hip swing.

Psoas, quad, QL, lat, hip flexor stretch
For those with scoliosis, only tip this generously into the convex side (curve) of a thoracic or thoraco lumbar.
Stretching the psoas like this will feel awesome especially for those with uneven hips that are thoraco lumbar and lumbar curvature will most definitely affect.
- Derotate
The tip into the thoracic concave side would be minimal and reaching to where the wall meets the ceiling (instead of a deep lateral tip).
Currently Iām pursuing a higher level of education - Polestar Pilatesās Certification which is movement and therapeutic based. Iām all about that for sureā¦.

Know what to do to manage your Scoliosis?

The Pilates reformer is an exercise machine that utilizes springs, leverage and body weight as resistance to target specific muscle groups.
What does the class look like? It is therapeutic movements and techniques with the formula to manage (and if your disciplined) and decrease your scoliosis curvature(s) and get you out of pain. What could be better than that?
~ Breathing into the lung that breaths less
~ myofascial release ā which in turn will allow the joints to have better ROM
~ joint series ~ the muscles can only come into balance if the joints are supple
~ lengthening, derotating out of your curvature(s)
~ strengthening the muscle groups that are imbalanced and in turn this will keep what we just corrected to last this structural correction longer
~ Shivasan
There are 3 reformer beds = very small group practice and lots of individual attention

My wish from our Yoga Retreat yesterday a.m. (there were 12 participants) is that each of you came away with some yogic tools for Tiwoyeh - Stillnessā¦. the theme for this retreat.
Iām personally deeply grateful to Gabriel (and look at those socks - LOL!) for driving up to my neck of the woods as a special guest speaker giving (of course) a wonderful dharma talk, super fun singing of songs instilling the ahhhhhā¦.. and all the mudra and pranayama breath practices.

Forward head...
is unfortunately such a part of the human anatomy structure these days - technology and games, poor posture, aging, lose of muscle tone in the upper back and shoulders, sitting poorly at your desk working hours on end, all add to this.
Most of society has forward head.
As woman, this is something we really have to be aware of and work on as we lose bone mass as we age, AND we have a greater chance to getting kyphosis (dowager hump) than men.
I have found nearly all my scoliosis client base (even the young) have a forward head.
If you attend any yoga class, plssssssssā¦ā¦. put a blanket or towel under your head. What Iām looking for is for you to not have your chin nod back nor nod in. Iām looking for the proper natural structure to the cervical spine which is lordotic/concave.
If you want a little more lovinā care for your cervical spine (neck), I suggest a blanket or towel rolled into a log to support your cervical spine. That might feel pretty goodā¦ā¦ if it doesnāt feel good, donāt do it.
Remember that if you have scoliosis, your sympathetic nervous system (fight or flight) is heightened - the sympathetic nervous system lies in your thoracic spine (isnāt that interesting?) and then you add a curve in the thoracic = a heightened sympathetic nervous system. If you are uncomfortable, this will heighten the sympathetic nervous system eccentric more. All good information for you to know and be more educated on.
