Next week on Wednesday, May 15, 2024, the Baltimore County Police Department Peer Support and Wellness Team will be hosting the first screening in the Baltimore Metropolitan area of the multi-award winning documentary PTSD911 (https://ptsd911movie.com/).

The screening will be held at the Rosenbloom Owings Mills Jewish Community Center located at 3506 Gwynnbrook Avenue, Owings Mills, MD, 21117. The doors will open at 6:00 p.m. and vendors will be present with resources and information. The screening begins at 7:00 p.m. and the movie lasts approximately 1 hour and 23 minutes. After the conclusion of the screening a live panel will discuss first responder mental health, the stigma that surrounds it, and how we can work together to break the stigma so more 1st responders are encouraged to seek help when they need it.

This movie was created because 18-24% of dispatchers and 35% of police officers suffer from PTSD. 37% of fire and EMS professionals have contemplated su***de during their career. In the feature-length documentary “PTSD911,” first responders’ untold stories unfold, revealing the profound psychological toll they endure—from the gripping intensity of life-and-death situations to the hidden struggles behind their facade of strength. The film portrays the strength and stoicism of first responders within cultures that normalize enduring challenges but also create a damaging stigma and formidable barriers to seeking help. Through personal accounts from firefighters, police officers, and 9-1-1 dispatchers, the audience journeys through the complexities of trauma, shedding light on its universal and individual impact. The documentary concludes with a resounding message of hope, encouraging those suffering in silence to reach out, emphasizing that help, understanding, and healing are within reach.

This event will be open to the community and everyone is encouraged to pass this information along to community groups, neighborhood associations, professional groups and organizations, and others. (Young children are not encouraged to attend due to the nature and content of the film).

The movie has been screened across the country and the record attendance has been 230 people. Lets work to break that record by filling the 550 seat Gordon Center!

Tickets are $10 each and 50% of the proceeds will be donated to the Baltimore County Police Assistance and Relief Fund.

Officers attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver refused. The stolen vehicle proceeded onto the outer loop of I-695 traveling in the wrong direction. Officers did not follow the stolen vehicle onto the highway. After entering I-695, the stolen vehicle struck an Acura TSX. The driver of the Acura was pronounced deceased at an area hospital. The officers involved were equipped with body-worn cameras. Members of the Independent Investigations Division of the Office of the Attorney General will be investigating this matter.
