The Tool Designer is primarily responsible for ensuring that Siding Sizers and Sizer components are efficiently maintained through regular preventative maintenance, fabrication of parts and a regimented tool maintenance, change out and design plan are fully implemented to standards, maintains well organized and clean workstation and maintain/update required documentation.

Essential duties:
*Perform the job in a safe manner, following all rules/regulations and training. Perform daily safety inspections and report all unsafe conditions or Near Miss events immediately. Wear all PPE as required.
*Troubleshoot equipment and process problems. Follow all environmental and housekeeping requirements, properly dispose of waste material, parts, and trash, regularly sweep, keep material, oil, and water off floors, and keep contaminated material from entering the process water system.
*Possess thorough working knowledge of Siding Process shop equipment, including set-ups, jigs, and lubrication, with the capability to machine, bore, thread, taper, shape, polish, sharpen, press, and mill on machine shop equipment, including Electric Discharge Machine (EDM), press, drill, mill, lathe, and surface grinder.
*Able to read blueprints/ diagrams to fabricate parts and installation instructions to ensure proper repairs
*Must be proficient with personal computers and CAD programs, including producing final drawings to current engineering standards.
*Thorough knowledge of materials, including stainless steel, aluminum alloys, tool steels, and standard carbon steel.
*Able to operate TIG or stick arc welding, oxyacetylene torch, carbon arc, silver solder, and brazing. Capable of programming, operating, maintaining, and repair Electric Discharge Machine (EDM), altered ‘G’ programming code for CNC machines, surface grinders, Bridgeport milling machine, and Rockwell Hardness Tester.

This person will perform job duties with direction from the Plant Manager & Shift Supervisor. Duties also include being accountable for machine performance, and productivity.

Primary Responsibilities  Perform job duties in a safe manner (this includes wearing eye and hearing protection in designated areas).  Start and stop all equipment in a proper and safe manner.  Perform daily walk downs to ensure machines are at required efficiency and production levels.  Complete machine/line changeovers, including all downstream equipment (leak detectors, conveyors, flamers, box erectors, etc.) to maintain production orders and levels per production schedule.

Experience/Education  Must have comprehensive mechanical tools to complete required machine tasks.  Must have basic mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and electrical skills.  Requires constant visual attention, ability to discern flaws in containers.  Must know and be able to assist in the training of lower classification employees on the in-house computer inventory systems for production entries. Physical Requirements Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 25 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Must be able to lift 75-100 pounds occasionally.
