Last night, Mr. Rick Toms, President of Atlantic Security, arrived at our food stand and volunteered cutting the potatoes. Volunteers is what makes America great.

Fire Prevention Week is October 9 -15th. This year’s FPW campaign, “Fire won’t wait. Plan your escape™”, works to educate everyone about simple but important actions they can take to keep themselves and those around them safe from home fires.. “Today’s homes burn faster than ever. You may have as little as two minutes (or even less time) to safely escape a home fire from the time the smoke alarm sounds. Your ability to get out of a home during a fire depends on early warning from smoke alarms and advance planning,” said Lorraine Carli, vice president of Outreach and Advocacy at NFPA. Overloaded electrical outlets can be a cause of home fires. If too many items are plugged in, dangerous levels of heat can be generated-potentially causing a fire.

Gardening and yard work can be a great way to enjoy the outdoors this time of year while maintaining your physical health. Use these tips to help keep you safe and healthy.

1. Wear gloves to protect yourself from insect bites, cuts, soil borne bacteria and fungus, fertilizer and chemicals.
2. Dress properly to lower your risk of sunburn. Wear sunscreen, sun glasses, long sleeves and pants. When using lawn machinery make sure to wear safety goggles to protect your eyes.
3. Use a proper container to carry your supplies and lighten your load. Choose ergonomic tools for comfort and to help reduce strain.
4. Protect your knees with knee pads or cushions. Avoid heavy lifting immediately after a long period of bending or kneeling.
5. Prevent the risk of heat related illnesses by taking frequent breaks. Also, drink plenty throughout the day to replenish fluids.
6. Enjoy!!

For National Nutrition Month we are changing up one of our favorite foods with a nutritious option.

Pizza. It’s one of our favorite forms of junk food with its cheesy, carby deliciousness overloaded with enough toppings to check off every major food group. Let’s be honest though, you probably feel pretty lethargic after that fourth slice. This Greek recipe is for you! It’s quick and easy to make, full of fresh flavors and still comfortingly delicious. Plus, this pizza has lots of lovely Greek-ish ingredients, especially after it’s topped off with a balsamic and olive oil dressing. Not only does it taste amazing, it’s also good for you!

Ingredients:
Serves 2
— Use a 12" pizza base
— 3 tablespoons olive oil
— 2/3 cup shredded mozzarella
— 2/3 cup shredded cheddar cheese
— 1/4 teaspoon dried oregano
— 1/4 teaspoon salt
— 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
— 1 cup mild arugula
— 8 olives, pitted and sliced in half
— 4 sundried tomatoes in oil, sliced in half
— 1/8 cucumber (seeds scooped out with a spoon) chopped into quarter moons
— 1/4 small red onion, peeled and thinly sliced
— 1/2 cup crumbled feta cheese
— 2 Tablespoons balsamic vinegar

Instructions:
1. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Place the pizza base on a baking tray and brush with one tablespoon of olive oil. Top with the mozzarella and cheddar, then sprinkle on the oregano and a pinch of salt and pepper. Bake in the oven for 10-14 minutes until the pizza base and cheese are golden brown.
2. Take out of the oven and scatter on the arugula followed by the olives, sundried tomatoes, cucumber slices, red onion and feta cheese.
3. Mix together the remaining olive oil with the balsamic vinegar and a pinch of salt and pepper. Drizzle the dressing over the pizza just before serving.
4. ENJOY!
