Anthony Lammachia conducted a fantastic interview addressing some common misconceptions & misleading articles in the real estate industry recently. It's important for those outside the industry to understand a few key points.
One important point to note is that commissions have always been negotiable. There is no βsetβ commission rateβ¦ there is a standard which other brokerages may charge, but it is something that has always been up for negotiation.
Furthermore, there is significant value in hiring an agent to represent you, whether you're buying or selling. At the end of the day people do business with who they know, like, and trust. When you meet with the right agent, you will clearly see the value they bring to the table!
If sellers choose not to offer compensation to a buyer's agent, they may limit their pool of potential buyers. Buyers already have expenses to cover, such as down payments, closing costs, home inspections, and appraisals. Adding a buyer's compensation on top of that could make homes less affordable.
Ultimately, a seller's priority is what they will net from the sale. As long as they are satisfied with their earnings after agent fees, that should be the main focus. The current real estate system has been effective for years.
