It's "Wall of Fame Wednesday" and today we would like to recognize 2019 inductee, Doug Smith. Bio was written at the time of his induction.

"I grew up with my 3 brothers in the Village of Hamburg and later moved into the town. My folks, Jeanne and Andrew Smith, were active members of the community including: American Legion (they were both veterans of WWII), Catholic Daughters, and Hamburg Baseball. I graduated from Hamburg High School in 1976 and then attended Hilbert College receiving an A.S. Degree in Business Administration and played baseball for 2 years at Hilbert. I went on to the University of Buffalo School of Management where I received a B.S. in Business Administration.

After graduating the job market was challenging and I started as a beer truck driver for a local beer distributor, Lake Erie Distributors. I moved on to route sales at Try-it Distributing in the mid 1980’s. In 1987 I joined Labatt USA as a sales representative. Labatt USA became a global company owned by the likes of Interbrew and InBev. I held several positions in wholesaler management and National Accounts. One of my proudest moments was when I was part of the team that was able to move Labatt USA National Headquarters from Norwalk CT to Buffalo, NY. In 2015 working with FIFCO USA, new parent company of Labatt USA, I was named Vice President of Sales for North America, managing a sales organization of over 200 people, and was able to expand the business into all 50 states, the Caribbean and Canada. With all my business success my greatest achievement was being able to, along with my wife JoAnne (HHS class of 1977) raise our 3 children and have them all graduate from HHS. Recently I have started along with friends and family a non-for-profit 501c3 group called Out of the Blue whose mission is to 'enhance the lives of the adult disabled living throughout WNY'. We have given over $80,000 to this special community."

It's "Wall of Fame Wednesday" and today we would like to recognize 2012 inductee, Coach James Henneberg. Bio was written at the time of his induction.

A graduate of Cortland State, Jim came to Hamburg in 1964. Upon his arrival, Jim coached Boys' Varsity Basketball and was asked to take over for Coach Gentner, who was drafted into the Army, to coach the Boys' Varsity Soccer Team. He responded by leading the squad to a perfect 18-0 season and a Section VI championship! In his 50 Varsity sports seasons, Jim recorded 47 winning seasons and cumulative record of 622-207, a .750 winning percentage! Henneberg's Varsity Boys' basketball teams posted a 64-32 record over 5 seasons and reach the Section VI championship game in 1968. His Boy's Tennis teams compiled a 160-74 match record and in 4 years of coaching the Girl's tennis team, at least one team member qualified for the NYS finals each year. In his tenure as the Varsity Golf coach, his teams posted a remarkable match record of 112-2, earning 10 division championships, 5 ECIC championships, highlighted with Kris Cappuzzo becoming Hamburg's first, and only New York State golf champion. In 13 years as Girls' Varsity Basketball coach, he led the Lady Bulldogs to three consecutive division championships, eight Section VI semifinals and compiled a record of 207-78. While his winning percentage speaks for itself, Jim's greatest contribution to Hamburg athletics was his innate ability to motivate his athletes positively, and make them realize their potential as individuals long after their playing days were through. Simply put, he changed lives!

It's "Wall of Fame Wednesday" and today we would like to recognize 2018 inductee, Dawn Ryan (Distinguished Educator). Bio was written at the time of her induction.

Dawn is a WNY native, graduating from Salamanca High School. As a young mother volunteering in her children’s school, she realized she wanted to be a teacher, so she spent the next decade attending college nights and summers to earn her BA, Masters, and Administrative certification. During this time, she taught full-time in K-8 private schools, and she had the good fortune to meet and marry Jim Ryan; together, they raised seven children.

She joined the faculty at Hamburg Central School District where she spent twenty-five happy years in the English Departments at the Senior and Junior High. With her colleagues, Dawn created a reading/writing workshop classroom, an exciting time of professional growth. It was also gratifying to reconnect with K-8 teachers when Dawn became the district Language Arts Teacher-Coordinator, a position she held for four years.

After retirement from Hamburg, Dawn worked for SUNY at Fredonia, teaching and supervising student teachers. Jim and Dawn moved to Colorado in 2000 where Dawn began tutoring, then volunteering at her grandchildren’s elementary school. That led to Colorado certification and the opportunity to become a reading/writing specialist in Boulder Valley School District. Dawn ended her career helping children read and write in a one-room mountain school.

Since retirement from BVSD, Dawn has enjoyed creating volunteer writing programs in senior centers, hospice, and hospitals, work that has enriched her life. She remains grateful to Hamburg Central School District for the privilege of teaching Hamburg students. It was, in fact, the hardest job she ever loved.

Let's chat parking! As we gear up for Opening day (woohoo🎉) , we wanted to send a friendly reminder for parking directions, information and rules. We will have staff overseeing the lot but wanted to post a few things:

1. Available Parking Areas are outlined in Yellow on map.

2. One way parking lots (both gravel and lawn) The Arrows indicate how to navigate around the lot and where the enter/exits are. Please DO NOT exit off the lawn, over the sidewalk and into Church St.

3. We ask that there is NO PARKING along the driveway, in front of the Moose Lodge or on Church St. by the Moose Lodge Driveway. We need to keep this clear for Emergency vehicles and our market foot traffic.

4. Handicap Parking is available closest to the market entrance.

We understand that parking is limited, we encourage everyone to circle the lot a time or two and most times a spot will open up as the foot traffic flows in and out.

PS If you make a right out of the Moose Lodge Driveway and go around the block, it makes traffic move along much quicker!

We love and appreciate our community and appreciate their support- but our top priorities are market safety and success! Thank you!!

It's "Wall of Fame Wednesday" and today we would like to recognize 2019 inductee, Robert Fleming (Class of 1968). Bio was written at the time of his induction.

“I grew up in the Village with my 5 siblings. I graduated from Hamburg HS in 1968 where I was a good student and played football and basketball. I went to Cornell University and received a BA in 1972. I was a 3-year starter on the Cornell football team at defensive back.

For 3 years after Cornell, I was a painter and printmaker, which was and is my primary passion. Nonetheless, I went to UB Law School and graduated cm laude in 1978. I worked as a confidential law clerk to John T. Curtin, Chief Judge of the Federal District Court for my first legal job, where I worked on the momentous Buffalo school desegregation case.

After 2 years in Federal Court, I joined the Hodgson Russ law firm. At Hodgson, I practiced Corporate and Antitrust Law and served as head of the firm’s corporate department and on the board of the largest law firm in Buffalo. I have been included in Best Lawyers of America for both corporate and antitrust law for over 20 years and was named the corporate lawyer of the year in Buffalo in 2008. In addition to major Buffalo companies, my largest clients were headquartered in Finland. I worked on major merger and antitrust cases for them and served as a director of their US holding companies.

Throughout my legal career, I continued to pursue my art practice in a serious way. In my early 60’s I cut back on legal work and increased the time I devoted to art. I had a one-person exhibition of my etchings at a major Buffalo gallery in early 2018. I am a co-founder of Mirabo Press, a fine art printmaking workshop in Buffalo and exhibited work in numerous shows the last few years. I have served as director of numerous for-profit and not-for-profit companies and currently am a director of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Western New York and also Western NY Book Arts."
