Preventing the effects of heat and drought stress in your lawn actually starts in the fall and spring. Your annual mechanical core aeration can relieve soil compaction by mechanically removing cores of soil, ultimately encouraging the uptake of nutrients and oxygen through a deeper root system. This can give your lawn a better chance to withstand the summer heat. Poor growing conditions such as clay or sandy soils may require a little extra attention. Annual aeration will reduce water run-off, which allows more water to reach the rooting system and provide a healthier lawn.

"I’m a new customer this year and am very satisfied. The fertilizer was applied timely and the w**ds are controlled regularly. Easier and more cost-effective than doing it myself." - James, W**d Man Customer
Raise your mowing height periods of summer heat, and never remove more than 1/3 of the leaf blade in a single mowing session. Keeping your grass a little longer helps to keep the crowns of the grass plant cool and shaded, which will help the lawn maintain its color and health. Much like watering, it’s best to mow in the morning when possible. Make sure you keep the mower blade razor-sharp to help the grass plants heal and prevent a brown appearance!
At W**d Man, we like to think of your lawn care program as a partnership. We take care of expert services like fertilization, w**d control, and mechanical core aeration, and, for the best results, you’ll want to keep up with proper mowing and watering practices. It takes diligence and consistency throughout the season to help your lawn grow healthy, lush, and green!
If your lawn is experiencing heat and drought stress, water deeply and more frequently than you normally would. If you live in a more northern region of North America, this might mean watering about 3 to 4 times a week. If you live in a more southern region, with hotter weather and less rain, you might need to water every other day to help your lawn green up again. The ideal time to water your lawn is early in the morning, between 5 and 9 am, when temperatures are cooler and the water will not evaporate. Ask your local W**d Man professional for specific watering tips that suit the conditions of your lawn and your geographic location.
Drought Stress Drought stress can cause your grass to turn brown and dormant, while also making it more susceptible to pests and disease.

Happy Fourth of July!
This holiday, make the most of your lush, green lawn, and spend some quality time outside with family and friends.
Throughout the summer, it's important to be on the lookout for signs of heat and drought stress in your lawn. Heat and drought stress occurs when your lawn experiences a significant loss of moisture during consistently hot, dry weather. It’s not always a simple diagnosis, but there are a few common indicators that your grass may be experiencing heat and drought stress.
Summer weather is finally here! While it's great for our summer BBQs, it's not so great for our lawns, which can quickly become drought-stricken or develop a common lawn disease called leaf blight. If you find yourself wondering why your lawn appears burnt, leaf blight may be the culprit. Read more about leaf blight, and avoid mowing while lawn disease is active to prevent further spread. If you do mow, make sure your blades are razor-sharp.
Leaf Blight The symptoms of Leaf Blight include elongated, water-soaked lesions on the leaves, which eventually turn yellow or brown and can even cause the leaves to die.

Chalk it up to fun. An inexpensive box of colored chalk can keep the kids busy for hours. Have younger kids draw pictures on the sidewalk or driveway. For older children, try a game of Tic Tac Toe or hopscotch. To get started, simply draw a pattern with eight squares. Players can then toss a marker (try a stone or button) onto one of the squares and hop over it on one foot.

How to Work From Home – Outside! 5 Steps to Turn Your Lush, Green Lawn into Your Home Office
Keep your lawn mower blade razor sharp to ensure it makes a clean and precise cut of each blade of grass. This allows the lawn to heal quickly after mowing. A dull lawn mower can tear the blades of grass, which slows the healing process and exposes the torn, wounded tissue to possible turf disease attack. For safety, most lawn mower blades do not come sharpened from the factory, so you will likely need to sharpen your blade before the first mow with a new mower blade.
Grassy w**ds, like crabgrass, are characterized by slender leaves that resemble turfgrass. They look and behave differently than the other common w**d varieties, broadleaf w**ds, and sedges, which means that the methods used to control them will differ as well. Today, we’re taking a closer look at grassy w**ds – and what to do about them!

What Is a Grassy W**d? Though grassy w**ds like crabgrass look similar to turfgrass, they weaken your lawn and make it susceptible to disease, pests, and other w**ds.
Avoid mowing when lawn disease is active in your lawn to prevent the spread of the disease. Your mowing equipment can pick up fungal lawn diseases and inadvertently spread them to other areas of your lawn. If you absolutely must mow while the disease is active, make sure your blade is razor sharp so it does not fray the tips of the grass, further spreading the disease.

Summer patch is a difficult-to-control lawn disease that affects cool-season grasses, such as Kentucky Bluegrass, Tall Fescue, and Fine Fescue. As the name suggests, it typically occurs during the hot and humid summer months, particularly in areas with poor soil drainage or heavy thatch buildup. Symptoms include yellowing and browning grass with patches of dead or dying turf. These patches may be circular or irregular in shape and can range in size from a few inches to several feet in diameter.

Have you tired creating an outdoor canvas? Hang an old sheet on a clothesline or tape paper to a fence for your budding artist to paint on. Encourage them to try painting with different kinds of brushes, says Penny Warner, author of Kids’ Outdoor Parties (Meadowbrook Press). “Try dipping grass into paint and swishing it on paper, then try painting with a leaf or a twig. The kids can also try painting rocks and creating people or bugs with them.”
