Spa Day for Mr Tramp.

02/19/2024

We hope all of our customers are enjoying this winter season. We look forward to seeing your dogs this upcoming year.

We wanted to share a change in the Pennsylvania dog law that will potentially affect our Maryland customers. In October, the PA legislature pass SB746 which helped to modernize the Bureau of Dog Law Enforcement. While most of the changes were needed, we were surprised by a new regulation that requires all out of state boarding dogs to have a certificate of veterinary inspection on an official USDA or state equivalent form. This requires the Maryland customer to first schedule a veterinary appointment with an accredited MD vet and pay for a health certificate/exam before their dog can cross the border into Pennsylvania and enter a boarding kennel. As far as I can tell from the language, this only applies to boarding and not for seeking other services with your dog or attending events in Pennsylvania. We understand if our Maryland customers are unable to board with us due to the increased cost of obtaining a health certificate every time they want to come to our kennel. We also ask all of our customers to write your local state, representatives and senators, and ask that this rule be changed. This law change, almost cuts our service area in half right at the Mason Dixon line. We are still waiting for confirmation from the state dog warden about whether this law will be enforced. Please contact us before making a booking if you are based in Maryland.

We are reinstating our mask requirement. No exceptions. Please do not enter our office without a mask. We will be happy to take care of you outside in the parking lot if you can not wear a mask.

With the rising cases, there is now a greater chance that our staff could be affected with the high volume of customers coming in.

If The majority of our staff were to come down with Covid and test positive, technically we would have to close the kennel down and require dogs to leave.

Our goal is to make it through this holiday season without asking our customers to return from their trips to get their dogs.

Happy Thanksgiving from Lakeside Pet Resort.

Even on holidays we are hard at work. But the work is easy when you love what you do and your home is only 500 feet away.

We wanted to let everyone know that we had two kennel runs open up at the last minute for this weekend.. Grab them quick while they are still available.

Today I wanted to cover a serious issue that many kennels and other dog business face. Every year during the summer boarding season the risk of getting kennel cough increases as there are more boarders than any other time of the year from different areas.

Kennel cough or it’s official name, canine infectious tracheobronchitis is passed from dog to dog by close contact or via the air. Usually symptoms show up 7-10 days after exposure allowing a dog to spread it before anyone realizes they are affected.

Talking with several veterinarians in the region we have found that there seems to be a new variant affecting dogs that is not covered by the bordatella vaccine. This combined with the increase in travel for 2021, a high increase in dog ownership and a year of almost no travel for 2020 have made the 2021 boarding season much riskier than previous years.

We are closely monitoring the dogs in our care in addition to our heavy daily cleaning routine. So far we have only had a couple isolated cases earlier in the summer that we are aware of. Those dogs were separated from the rest and went home.

It’s is important to know that by boarding your dog with us, you do so at your own financial risk. The best method for preventing kennel cough is to avoid taking your dog anywhere they can be near new dogs. I’m many cases that is hard to do. In the end the cough is rarely fatal and is similar to the common cold.

It is important for us to be upfront to our customers about this. If you have any questions feel free to call us or email us.

We wanted to let everyone know that we are booked full for July 4th weekend and the following weekend. Feel free to call us to see if we have any cancellations or openings. If you made an online reservation with the intention of possibly adding a day or two, please call us first. We are asking our customers to stick with the dates they originally picked as we have very little wiggle room for space.

06/23/2021

Just a quick note that Facebook messenger does not always alert us of a new message.
This has caused delays in responding. Best to email or call us for your boarding and grooming needs.

06/09/2021

The summer boarding season has already proven to be super busy. We are currently close to capacity or at full capacity for most weekends leading into the middle of July.

Get your bookings in as soon as possible. If the online booking system refuses your dates, contact us to see if we’ve had any cancellations and to get on our waiting list. If you can not find a spot at any of our fellow boarding kennels in the area we can suggest 1 or two kennels an hour away in Maryland that may have space for a price range close to what is offered in Hanover.

Miss Bella is enjoying a late night stroll in the yard before our 9 o’clock final outing for the dogs. While the office hours are limited, we are still here in the background working between the hours of 6 AM and 9 PM. Even at night our live in employee is upstairs in the apartment and close by as the dogs sleep. This is in addition to our home on the property.

Lakeside Pet Resort is working hard to refresh our facility. Last year we renovated our one kennel wing with new stainless doors and new partition walls which give our guest nice private quarters.

This winter and spring, we have been working hard to revamp our other kennel wing with new quartz/epoxy floors, new gates and a new HVAC system.

Soon, the front of our facility will receive a new paint job to match the house along with new awnings.

We will share photos as these projects finish up. We are still open during renovations and have plenty of room to board.

Just want to let everyone know that the power company is working on the electric outside of the business. There will be no power until 2 o’clock. If you need to reach us please call the owner Pauls cell phone at 240-529–2462.

With all the craziness since February we forgot to share photos from Sibas big win in New York City at the Westminster Kennel Club. From time to time customers will ask about photos and we haven’t had a chance to display or post any.

Her Best In Show that night was followed by a busy media tour that took us all over Manhattan. It was an experience we will never forget. Siba has since retired with us and no longer has her big hair. She enjoys playing with our son Aiden and happily welcomed our new addition to the family.

In spite of the shutdown we managed to finish installing our new stainless steel kennel doors and extend the side walls to creat comfy private rooms for our guests. The new floor coating had to be delayed due to the pandemic but will come later. We will also be renovating our other kennel wing with new stainless panels and a new floor coating.

Fun time outside with friends.

05/21/2020

As we approach the busy summer boarding season I wanted to make sure everyone knows. We are still open. Please be aware that we may turn a customer away if they are not wearing a mask. This is for the safety of the owners and our employees. It is also required by the state that we enforce it.

Most transactions will be conducted outside the office in the parking lot.

03/20/2020

We received official notice that kennels can stay open as essential businesses. We are here for your emergency boarding needs. Please note we will need to arrange exact times for pick up and drop offs. We will not be following our regular hours.

03/17/2020

We would like to let everyone know that we will still be boarding pets during the Coronavirus isolation period. We do ask that you keep us posted on your exact arrival time. The office will not have the normal 9-11 and 5-7 hours and will be by appointment only.

If you need grooming, we have a very open schedule and will be happy to assist you.

If you are boarding due to illness, please let us know so we can meet you outside of the building. We will also offer a discount for your boarding. Please present documentation when picking up to receive the discount.

Please stay safe.

Thank You.

Paul and Chrystal.

Important notice to our boarding customers. Please make sure that you bring us a signed official rabies certificate. In addition to the signature and expiration date, the certificate MUST have the LOT NUMBER of the vaccine used.

We will have to refuse any dog that does not have an official rabies certificate. Receipts or general shot record summaries from the vet will no longer be accepted. This is being enforced by the State of Pennsylvania’s department of agriculture. Pa boarding kennels have no control over this and must comply.

Is anyone in the area missing a black cat with orange specks of hair?

Today she came onto the property and hung out with me while I was working outside. I was worried about tonight’s frigid temperatures so I brought her in and gave her food water and a place to sleep. I can post a photo tomorrow.

With the summer vacation season upon us, I wanted to stress the importance of having your dogs records in order. Especially an up to date rabies vaccine. By law, kennels are supposed to refuse any dog that has an expired rabies certificate. A kennel and owner can be fined by the inspector if it is found they boarded a dog with an expired certificate. Even if the certificate expires while the dog is boarding. This is heavily enforced by the state of Pennsylvania’s dog bureau which inspects kennels at random twice a year. We will have to refuse any dog whose rabies certificate or kennel cough vaccine has expired or is going to expire during their stay.
