Soft & wispy updo for mommy
to go with her Japanese wedding attire ❤️
This past year was one phenomenal time to be in the wedding industry! I always feel privileged to be able to enjoy what I do for living. Because I’m passionate about this work, I try to become better every year and this cycle seems to benefit both our team and our clients, and the good work seems to get recognized every year. Love how that works out for everyone, doesn’t it? ❤️
I just came back from a trip in Korea, and let me tell ya, I learned SO MUCH in this trip. I’ve put 3-months worth of activities and training in mere 3 weeks, and although my body feels like it’s barely living right now, I feel very accomplished and productive. I’m not just saying this: I CANNOT wait to apply what I learned from Korea for my future clients this year. You are in good handsss 🙌🏻
As always, THANK YOU. Thank you for choosing us, and thank you for allowing us to do our work on one of the most important days in your life. I know it’s just makeup for some people, but for others, I also know just how much weight we carry in our work, so we always try to bring our best selves when we show up at your hotel door at 7:45 am in the morning on your wedding day. We take our work very seriously (and it probably shows? Hopefully 🤞)

📝 Today’s topic: Monolids & Eczema
💖✨💫⚡️🧑🎨🪄🌟💫✨💖
✅Transformation Tuesday ✅
Not all monolids need to get “fixed up” to be a double lid creased eyes, because this is entirely upto your preference!
If you wanted them though, you can rest assured that I WILL GIVE THEM TO YOU (most of the times 😁).
Some eyes are easier for me to create this than others, but even if it wasn’t to make a visible double lidded crease line, there are other ways to open up the eyes, so we can discuss what your options are when we do a consultation. (Trial is a MUST if we need to do something this extensive!)
Same thing with eczema! It usually creates a texture and discoloration around the eyes and lips, so it takes a specific set of techniques to de-emphasize (is that a word?) the texture and perfectly camouflage the discoloration, and still create depth around the eyes and lips so that the client doesn’t look flat.
We got you, so come on over and let’s create something BEAUTIFUL 😍❤️
A gorgeous, textured, wispy updo
By our amazing senior hairstylist Linda ❤️
So much hidden details to make it look effortless and yet keeping it last through the 8+ hrs of running around and dancing is our expertise 💪
Our incredible artist Lyndsey's work recognized
Thanks Connie Q for leaving your review on WeddingWire Tina and her team are incredible, and I recommend her and her team with full confidence. Because of availability, we had Lyndsey perform our hair & makeup day of, and she was just the absolute best! I only have good things to say about Tina and Lyndsey, but here are some specifics of why I recommend...
[CONTINUED FROM PREVIOUS POST]
With our specific goal in mind, things I focused on:
✅ Eyelid reconstruction:
I could tell that she used to have a very defined, thick crease line when she was younger and she wouldn’t mind at all to bring that back to life 💫 This happens to everyone in the end because the skin on the upper lid loses fat/thickness over the years and starts to sag, creating a visor effect, disguising the crease line into thinner 속쌍커플.
I used the eyelid tape in a very specific way, to lift and push in the excess skin into the higher crease line. Because of the relaxed eyelid completely covering the tape, the result is very natural even if she looks down. Doing this opened up her eyes a lot, and as a result, we didn’t need to go extreme on her eye makeup.
Let’s think about this: we do all the eye shadows and liners to define the eyes, in hopes of creating a younger looking, big, open eyes. But if you can modify the physical structure of the eyes to look more open, than we don’t need to put all those eye shadows, except to enjoy the colors and sparkles because we’ve already achieved that effect fundamentally 😘
✅ Bringing back symmetry:
Her microbladed brows were a bit uneven, a little bit thick and too straight for her softer, feminine features, so I slimmed them down and rounded the shape a bit, creating a lifting effects for her already heavy looking upper lids.
Also, you can see that her lip shape was uneven and a bit thin, especially her bottom lips, so I increased the volume and made it more symmetrical. Lips are a huge factor for looking youthful. (I know, because I myself have thin, small lips… 👄😭)
✅ Brighter complexion without looking lighter:
Bright =/= Light. If you just make someone lighter on their face, the chances are, that person will just look dimensionless and pale, even with a ton of contouring.
My ultimate goal of the complexion makeup always is: healthy & glowing from within, like you just walked out of the facial spa treatment. Healthier looking complexion will always outperform looking thoughtlessly lighter. Always.
🛑 WHY IS IT IMPORTANT⁉️
⚠️말 귀 알아듣는 아티스트를 고르는 것이 왜 중요한가?
Why is it important to select an artist who understands what you are REALLY asking for?
🔆Story Time🔆
This lovely mom sat down at my chair and asked me to do “찐~한 메이크업“ (literal translation: “dark” or “a lot of” makeup).
That didn’t sound right, because when I saw her face, I immediately knew what kind of look would look good on her, and dark/too much makeup ain’t it, so I asked her for clarification.
She proceeded to tell me that she told all her friends who were going to be the guests of this wedding (her daughter) to “go all out and be all luxurious/extravagant and 화려해” for her daughter’s wedding, so she couldn’t be the one who isn’t on top of all that extravagance that her friends would be bringing in. (So cute 😆)
So I understood what she meant by then. She meant that she wants to be “the most extravagant looking person among her guests”, like a celebrity who shines through, among a crowd who also brought their best versions. And she thought that putting on a lot of makeup would achieve this goal, as many others may think also.
She didn’t literally mean that she wants really dark or a lot of makeup, because the goal isn’t to look harsh/세보여. The goal would be to look the most beautiful/luxurious version of herself, and this wouldn’t be achieved by putting on a lot of makeup. It’ll actually do the opposite for her, aging her and may end up looking more masculine when that’s not the intent.
So after a thorough communication of what to expect, I decided to take at least 10 years off of her, because, let’s face it people. At the age of 40+, most people appreciate looking younger, and staying looking young is one of the most realest flex as we get older, isn’t it?
So I wanted her to really flaunt all her youthfulness that’s already within herself, and bring out what she used to have when she was younger, for this really important event of her life. Not by giving her a bunch of makeup. By giving her what her features need.
[TO BE CONTINUED]
⚠️Question⚠️ Do you all like this size & proportion of before & after shot better than what I posted earlier?

Thank you ❤️😘❤️
Small changes ▶️ BIG differences
🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸
This bridesmaid client had amazing features for makeup ❤️ Made my job easier 😂😆
For this bridesmaid, my focus was: (of course with the client’s approval, always)
✅ Pulled up her slightly down-turned eyes
✅ Using the inner corner darkness as a nose contour
✅ Brought her undereye forward by color correcting
✅ Evened out the crease space on both eyes
✅ Matching her slightly-lighter face to her neck and chest
And the real challenge is to do this within 45 minutes. 😩 As a bridal artist, we don’t get to have an hour and half for everyone in the schedule (I wish it was that relaxed for us hahaha), so we have to prioritize the necessary steps for the biggest impacts in the least amount of time given 💫
For some artists, 45 minutes are plenty of times to make this happen and for some, this is harder to do.
For me, I’ve trained myself to give at least 85% of what I would have given if she were my bride with 75 minutes that I usually allot myself for the bride, for my bridesmaids in 45 minutes.
I do this by analyzing what’s the most necessary elements for the correction and enhancement as soon as my bridesmaid sits in my chair, picking and choosing and going through the list mentally from the top priority to the least necessary.
AND I do this while consulting, listening to their concerns and requests and preferences, so that we end up with the makeup that I’m proud of and for her to love 💕
🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸
Have you ever been a bridesmaid? If so, you know there’s a lot going on in a wedding 🤪
We are there to make things easy and stress free. 😘
🔹🔹🔹🔹🔹🔹🔹🔹🔹🔹🔹🔹🔹
Where are my MELANIN GODDESSES at?? 👑
Questions I get asked sometimes:
⚠️ My bridesmaids are not all Asian. Can you handle any other ethinic features other than Asian?
✅ Girl, rather than words, I’ll prove ya!
Okay, so 🐘 in the room:
⭕️ Yes, we do specialize in Asian features, but not because of the reasons you may think! 🧐
My clientele began as mostly Asian, because I was pretty good at doing it well, and I organically grew to be an Asian-specialized makeup artist.
But a good makeup artist should be able to handle a lot more than just one or two skin tones and features. Or you’d think… right?
Versatility comes with experience and talent, and genuine passion for this artistry (probably all equal parts involved), which leads to continuous self training and research. But, as everything in life, the good & passionate ones are rare.
The rarity of them is what make them special, and also expensive. The high price to pay to see a good one is usually the limiting factor for most people, so the majority would experience the sub-par ones first. And this is how we all end up having somewhat similar traumas.
I understand especially as a minority, it’s nerve wrecking to have someone who doesn’t look like you, to have her do your makeup because, does she even know how to match my skin tone? Girl, I don’t blame you one bit for thinking that.
And the truth is, this nervousness isn’t something that pops out of nowhere. (You are not crazy.) It’s a piece of trauma that exists in real life outside of just the client’s head. Like, we’ve actually had multiple artists failing on us, and this real-life experience puts us on this anxious train of thoughts.
So if this photo can put someone at ease, that’s all I’m trying to do. I’m not trying to be claiming myself as the greatest artist of all or whatever, but I claim to be the nerdy artist who gets super duper excited when she gets to do a more variety of work done, and do it well, and perhaps make that person very happy.

🌷🌼🌺🌸🪻🌻🌹💐
Here comes the…
💫👰🏻🌟
💐🌻🌺🌹🌷🌼🌸🪻
I’m going to break down this
look
in the next post 👩🏻💻
But let me just say, I seriously had
way too much fun with her
🧑🎨
Some people just have that face
made for makeup application,
and her face was definitely
one of those. 🥰
Beautiful before, and
absolutely gorgeous after 🩷
Doesn’t she look like she’s straight out of newest 💿 ?
——————————————————
Things I’ve done that may not be immediately apparent:
🌱Used to even out the thickness of the crease lines
🌱Cleaned out the excess brow hair and straightened them
🌱She had very full, long lashes that go straight down, so I actually used a very light, sparse just to have them curl up her natural lashes and heat-ironed the heck out of them to keep the curls 🆙
🌱Color corrected her dark circles and purply lip colors
🌱Lightly contoured and highlighted her face and nose to give her more defined shape
🌱Undereye sparkles to give her the look ✨⭐️🌟💫
——————————————————
This was her first time getting
a professional makeup done,
so I made sure to not overdo it
all while making it look special 💫
——————————————————
Okay, please tell me I’m not the only one seeing Jennie from 🩷
AND her “after” looks like a literal walking 😭🩷
——————————————————
The things I consider
when I see a client:
1️⃣ Proportion & Size
🔸Do I want to elongate or shorten the face? Nose? Chin?
🔸Is the height of her forehead proportionate to the rest of the face?
🔸Volume/size of the lips dominant in her face?
🔸Do brows have presence in her face?
🔸Is her chin protruding? Recessed?
🔸Does she have a high cheekbones?
🔸Mono-lids or Creased? Down-turned or Up-turned?
🔸How is the nose bridge? The tip shape?
🔸Do I want to slim the jaw line?
2️⃣ Colors
🔸What’s the color of the outfit are they wearing?
🔸What’s her hair color?
🔸Does she have tan in her body?
🔸What’s the undertone of her facial skin? Her front neck and chest? Back of her neck and/or forearm?
🔸Dark circles? Dark lip lines? Freckles?
——————————————————
For this client specifically, the things I did intentionally:
☘️Pulled out the chin to give it a protruding, sharper V-line for her round face
☘️Gave her cat-eye shape with a bold, elongated & angled eyeliner
☘️Fuller, longer brows for her asymmetrical brows
☘️Bronzed her face to match her tan
☘️Color corrected dark circles
☘️Bright cheek colors for her fuller high cheekbones
☘️Contoured the entire length of nose
——————————————————
I’d believe her if she said she was
the sister of the bride from yesterday’s
post 😍 but she’s her MOM!!
She needs to tell us what her
secret sauce is to her youth! 😝

Drastic change doesn’t always require
extremely smokey eyes 👀
or heavy contouring. 👽
Change can be drastic all while
the end result still looking natural.
How?
By doing a lot of subtle changes
effectively and in the right amount 🩷
Come see a professional if you want to
learn how to do this for yourself!
Because I also teach lessons 📝👩🎨🎨

Fresh 🪴
Summery 🌻
Glowing ⭐️
Natural makeup that shows off
her freckles by using
a sheer fluid foundation with
liquid shimmer mixed in ✨
giving her dry skin an illusion of
dewy glow without any stickiness.
All while giving her all the
definition of highlight & contour,
looking like herself 🩷
This type of complexion
(Medium-tone with saturated
peach undertone) is sometimes
tricky for the artist and consumers,
because part of the face is
deceivingly lighter than it overall
appears to be, so you have to use
a right level and undertone of
foundation, and sometimes
like three different shades
on a face.
Also, when trying to match
this color of complexion,
you’ll notice that the foundation
oxidizes a lot more severely
than other undertones.
My educated guess is that it uses
more of the red pigments than
other undertones to create that
saturation of peach tones,
but it’s just my guess 🤷🏻♀️

[continued from the previous post]
Not all plump lip gals need to worry
about these elements necessarily,
and these “rules” aren’t for all gals
who have plump lips. 💋
It more so has to do with the overall
look and features of the face,
and the balance those lips bring
to the rest of the face. 💄
For this client in particular, let’s examine
her features:
❣️Such a pretty set of eyes,
but they are on a softer side (meaning,
she doesn’t have that fierce look in her
eyes, quite opposite of that actually).
❣️Her nose shape is also very feminine
with slightly open-faced nose tip,
giving a youthful vibe, opposite of a
mature look.
❣️Slightly chubby cheeks makeher even younger looking, and the straight brows fit that overall theme.
So with these kind of soft, feminine features, but with such a big lips, it’s
very easy to overwhelm the entire look
because those lips already have a good
stage presence on this overall soft,
baby-like face 👧🏻
My job wasn’t necessarily to make her
look younger or more mature, but to
enhance the good things that are
already going on, which is why I chose
to give her a (my lips but better)
color on her lips ❤️
You probably didn’t know this much
thought goes into making what seems
to be a SIMPLE look, but that’s exactly
what makes this look appear so
effortless and natural, and yet
PERFECTLY EXECUTED in
every angle possible ✨😘❤️
Okay, now I’m gonna go rest to get over
this flu 🤧 Have a good weekend yall!!!
🩷❤️🧡💛💚🩵💙💜🖤🩶🤍🤎

Such a cute couple 👩🏻❤️👨🏻
(Her fiance is the guy from the
previous post 😆)
One of the pronounced feature
she had was her plump LIPS 👄
(so jealous!!)
Particularly with these shapes
of lips, however,
I’m very mindful of what colors
I choose and how I shape the lips.
The color needs to meet these criteria:
✅not too saturated or bright
✅nothing too dark or too light
✅not overly shiny, but can’t be dull
(WHAT…?)
Also, for these lip shapes,
how I line these lips that are alreadyprotruding either makes or breaks
the entire makeup look 👀
What makes it even more tricky:
she had a darker, purple lip lines 💜
which requires a color correction 🌈
One element of these go wrong,
(wrong shade or wrong shaping)
we can instantly get either…
❎ the dreaded “촌티나는“ lip makeup
(okay guys, my brain is currently
dead with a flu… 🦠 so help me out
on a translation 🤪)
OR
❎ it can make her lips look like
they’ve been stung by a bee 🐝
(You can look up 고은애 from 달려라 하니 comics, for a reference of what type of look I’m talking about. It’s a very old Korean comics 🩷)

Guys can TOTALLY benefit
from a good makeup 😎
A good selection of foundation
color for guys can do WONDERS
for their complexion, all while
looking very natural and undetectable. 😉
Some grooms are scared of an idea of getting makeup done, but once they see how natural it looks, they are fascinated by how awake and younger they appear in the mirror 🥳
The trickiest part for the makeup artist is that guys usually have different undertone of skin than a lot of woman do, often red-er and with larger pores. And some are deceivingly darker and some are deceivingly lighter than they first appear, so it took me some time to get the color correct at once.
When non-artists try to put something on for their fiance, they’d use their cushion or bb cream, which is often a wrong undertone and way too light for guys’ complexion, making them look ghostly 👻
So leave it up to the professionals! 🤩
Not only do we select and apply a correct foundation color, we groom their brows, we contour for a sharper looking nose and jaws, we powder to keep the shine down, and we put a naturally colored lip balms so that they look healthy and plump 🩷
After all, it’s their day too, and they’ll be photographed alongside you, so let’s get them prettied up 😘
-
Perfect side profile with perfectly shaped head 🌰 (the things that a bridal artist is obsessed about is sometimes a bit… odd 😂)
Super early morning prep gave me the perfect muted blue background 💎🩵🩶💙

This is another example of correcting the uneven eye size 👀 with eyelid crease tape 🩷
[📌SAVE this post 📌to read it again later 🔁]
It’s quite visible how her natural eyes have different sizes: her right side (left side ⬅️ in the picture) has significantly shorter height, less open than her other side. It probably has to do with the strength of her eye muscles being weaker on that side, but you can also tell that everything on that side (brows, eyes, and even the sides of her smile) is lower than those of the other side.
This is actually pretty common and we see with this all the time. 👩🎨 Some people are already aware of this and some aren’t, and I don’t necessarily go out of my way to tell them if they don’t already know, because I don’t want them to feel as though it’s something to be concerned about. (Because it really isn’t something to be concerned about, like at all.)
So, I was able to extend the height using a double sided tape and lashes in a certain way that it would open up that eye a little bit more, although you can still see that it is still smaller on that side. Given the time we had on her appointment, we mutually agreed that this is the best natural-looking result we can achieve, without going to an extreme (for example, using two double sided tapes, etc) and taking a risk of it looking very unnatural in real life.
She had opted out on doing a trial consultation prior to her wedding day, but I do highly recommend doing a trial especially when you feel like there needs to be a major correction on one of the features on your face, because the trial is the only opportunity where we have a luxury of TIME, to explore multiple options to choose from.
Regardless of having done the trial or not though, we, as in our entire Shine Tina team, do our ABSOLUTE BEST to come up with the best solution on the day of your wedding. You’d be surprised how heated 🔥 our discussion gets when we try to figure out a better way to do a certain thing about makeup or hair. We are such a nerd 👩🏼🔬👩💻

This custom-mixed red shade on her lips 👄💄
She generally looks really good with darker lip colors but this shade I made for her: the muted, Marcela red with slight brick + plum undertone, looked SOOO CHIC 😎 (swipe to see her in her red Chi Pao 🥀)
She kept telling me I should manufacture this color and sell it 😂😂😂
She had me stay there for touch up (this extended stay service is called Bridal Assistance Service) because she knew she wanted to enjoy the moment, eat, talk, laugh without worrying about touching up herself. This was especially well worth it for her because we heavily overlined her bottom lips, and the bottom lip color kept rubbing off on her front chin area. (Anatomically some people’s bottom lips will touch the chin when opening the mouth widely.)
After she ate a good lunch and laughing moments with her bridesmaids, we entirely redid her foundation on her chin and lip color and made it look freshly done again. We ended up touching her up like 5 times during that time of stay, looking perfect throughout the event. 💁🏻♀️ She and I agreed the time the cost was well spent ⭐️

Sometimes, I get to take my beautiful bride’s portraits after we finish her makeup and hair and she gets into her dress.
I feel so lucky being able to capture our work in this type of way, because I love taking beautiful images of our brides and photography is one of my other artistic outlets, albeit I’m just amateur at it 😅
Did you know I briefly majored in photography in my first semester of college at MICA? 😂 I ran away after that first semester, crying like a baby, and went straight to UMD College Park and majored in Biochem & Business, because I realized that I’m in fact not that artistically gifted and my brain was way more logic-driven than my artist peers.
BUT, I always say this: Having even an inkling of artistic talent/passion, or an eye for arts is almost like a CURSE, because throughout living life, I really couldn’t just shake off the desire of becoming an artist, like I was possessed, and that feeling was deeply irritating and very persistent unless I was creating art in some shape or form. Like, that desire stayed with me no matter what job I had and it made me think about what my life would be if I was in fact creating art for living, like every day.
So I started doing makeup, which was my passion ever since high school years, for people around me as a passion project and took photos of my work. This was noticed by my Asian Facebook friends and words kinda got out, and people started inquiring about my work. I was still working as a chemist back then, so I started doing this as a side gig on the weekends, for about three years, until I witnessed the demand growing to the point where the income from doing the bridal makeup and hair could completely replace that of my chemist job.
So I took the plunge. Full time bridal artist. It was a bit scary, but I didn’t think twice about it, because the satisfaction that I got from finally creating art for people and people WANTING to pay me for creating art was overwhelmingly positive. I never thought that my passion was going to be my career, but somehow it all fell into places.
I’m feeling a bit nostalgic today for some reason, so I thought I’d share my story here. As always, THANK YOU 😘❤️
