Meet Ms. Mary!

She has had two previous sets of hearing aids and care and today we did a follow up after her fitting with new devices and our prescriptive settings.

I asked her what she would say to someone else if they were considering getting some help with their hearing:

“I would tell them that if they come here that they can get help that they can’t get anywhere else in South Carolina. Also, we don’t need to go around not hearing, Empire can help you hear.

I don’t know how to tell you how much I appreciate you for what you’ve done for me. You’ve done so much for me.

I hear the birds singing. I can hear children now which I love because I really want to talk to them, and I can actually hear them now. It’s really just so much better.

I don’t know what I would have done without you. I was getting so frustrated. Even after several visits to another place trying to get them set up, I just wasn’t hearing.”

She said she WAS smiling 😂🙃 We teased her about it 😁

Historically, in audiology offices, we were typically drowning under a plethora of cables and programming equipment. Saw this photo and thought what a creative solution to the madness!

Thankfully, our cable and cords situation is much more under control these days with all of our wireless capabilities, but still thought it was too funny not to share!

“I can’t say that in front of you.” 😂

Meet Mr. Price, one of our incredible veterans. We not only have his words from day one but also from his follow-up two weeks later! It has been such a privilege to be apart of his first hearing aid experience after so many years!

On the day of his hearing fitting this is what he had to say:

“I haven’t been able to hear right since my time in Vietnam. I was really looking forward to coming today but I had no idea it would be this good and I haven’t even left your office yet. I can hear you writing, and I could hear you talking to Sydney up front, even understood some of it.

I went around listening for what I couldn’t hear but now I don’t even have to look at you to see you talking to hear you. I could hear you from behind me too. It’s better than when I got my new glasses! They are comfortable in my ears and so much smaller than what I remember my dad having. I can barely tell they are in there except for how much more clear everything sounds!

I’m really looking forward to not being elbowed by my friends anymore for not hearing someone. I’m ready to go hear outside!”

Once we were outside:

“I can’t believe how good it sounds”

At his 2 week follow-up:

How has your experience been?
“FUN!”

What has been the best part?
“The best part is being able to hear everybody a long way off. My cousin was talking to me loud and had to apologize for talking loud because he realized I could hear him so much better.”

What has improved?
“Everything. I haven’t heard a car go by my road in I don’t know how long. I turned my TV from 80 down to 20!”

Would you recommend others to pursue this kind of help?
“Yes, DO IT!”

This is your first time with hearing aids- can you share your journey?
“I‘ve been trying to get this help since before 1990 when I had ear surgery. I was told they didn’t make any hearing aids big enough and they wouldn’t work for me.”

What would you like to tell them now?
“I can’t say that in front of you.”

Any final words?

We had a great time handing out prizes and baby clothes, looking in ears on a live video cam, and drying out AirPods today at the Mom-a-Rama event hosted by Carolina Pines! We enjoyed sharing about our office and the Little Lions Kids Closet! We had 36 people sign up for our Mystery Raffle that we’ll announce this upcoming week! This little cutie was a highlight of our afternoon! Perfect little babe stayed asleep through all our follow-up newborn hearing screening testing ☺️

We had a nice time walking with One Child At A Time this past weekend! We recieved $150 in donations from some kind donors and we turned that into $500 for their great cause! Even got to see the inside of an ambulance, making a few dreams come true ☺️

We enjoyed having future Dr. Emileigh Tyler (OTD) spend the day with us today as part of her doctorate program, earning volunteer hours through multi-disciplinary experiences.

She got our back closet in tip top shape in no time which was incredibly impressive and then joined in on appointments.

She had no idea that audiology is so involved and how much it works with the brain! Her favorite part was witnessing an individual “fake” their hearing loss!

These issues take place under our noses with the children living in our homes! It’s not as obvious as you think. It’s not just abductions, rapes and murders. They’ve gotten very clever. But it definitely still means destruction for young girls and boys and their families none the less. And even suicides because of the blackmail nature of it.
