In 1964 Hastings Irrigation leased three buildings at the U.S. Naval Ammunition Depot to begin the production of the Vinyl-Clad-Aluminum Pipe. This type of pipe was used as an underground mainline, usually this mainline would run directly from the water source to the point of use, requiring less pipe. These coated pipes were produced in the longest lengths possible, to achieve the greatest economies in both hauling and installation. A standard length of 45 feet was adopted. After studying a number of connecting systems, an agreement was made with A.E. Joslin Machinery and Equipment, Ltd. Of Ontario, Canada, licensing Hastings Irrigation for the patented joining process known as the Joslin Buckle Joint. This was a process of whereby two lengths of pipe and joined by pressing together while forming a leak proof connection.
Due to aluminum availability and demand for above ground aluminum gated pipe, the vinyl-clad aluminum pipe was discontinued in 1972.

Directs and coordinates activities of personnel engaged in purchasing and distributing materials, equipment, and supplies in an organization by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate supervisors.
Plans, organizes, directs, and controls activities related to the procurement function.
Organizes, supervises, and directs the work of storeroom and central supply personnel engaged in receiving, issuing, and delivering supplies and equipment.
Analyzes market and delivery conditions to determine present and future material availability.
Prepares and issues purchase orders and change notices.
Oversees all activities related to procurement of a commodity, from intent to purchase through delivery.
Operates cone, disk, or nozzle type electrostatic painting equipment to spray paint particles onto work pieces by performing the following duties:
Regular onsite, predictable, punctual work attendance to adhere to the company attendance policy
Move switches and dials to start flow current and activate conveyor and powder coating equipment
Adjust valves and observes gauges to set pressure and control flow of powder.
Adjust spray guns to control direction and pattern of spray
Cleans paint from ceiling and walls of booth, conveyor hooks or grid, also cleans disks, cones, spray heads, and hoses.
Operates industrial truck or electric hoist to assist in loading or moving materials and products.
*Regular onsite work attendance with the ability to adhere to the company attendance policy.
*Ability to monitor and adjust mill for max efficiency and productivity
*Set up and operate mills: Some mechanical background preferred but NOT required.
*Welds metal components together with a variety of arc and gas welding equipment to fabricate or repair products as specified by layout, welding diagram, or blue print
*Steel & Aluminum
*MIG & TIG
Compiles and maintains Accounts Payable Records by performing the following duties and responsibilities:
• Knowledge of office procedures, basic accounting, and Microsoft Office products.
• Ability to operate calculator, PC Computer, and telephone system.
• Checks, codes and approves all payable transactions and prepares accounts payable checks.
• Prepares invoices and deduction notices as necessary.
• Audits freight bills against manifests.
• Prints all accounts payable reports and maintains all accounts payable files.
• Prepares Analysis of accounts as required.
• Assists in monthly closings.
• Assists with special projects as necessary.

For 71 years, Hastings Irrigation Pipe Company has logged experience in design, manufacturing and distribution of light metal products. From our beginning in 1949 in a small garage in Hastings, Nebraska, we produced metal products that met the needs of our customers. We started producing products from light gauge steel, stainless, and aluminum when it was a relatively new and exciting light metal. Today, we offer 220,000 square feet of manufacturing space in our Hastings, Nebraska plant and we also have a pipe plant in Madera, California. Over the years we have marketed many light metal products world-wide. Many of these “specialty” products have set the standards for their specific use. The variety of products we manufacture continues to expand and is limited only by the imagination of our customers. We have shipped products to all 50 states and over 270 foreign countries. At Hastings Irrigation Pipe Company we have worked hard to develop high performance products and also to find better, improved ways of using these products. Proof of this company philosophy can be seen in the many various industries that have utilized our ability: agricultural, architectural, construction, electronic communication, energy/oil, marine/boating, meteorological systems, trucking and tube mills. We will continue to look for new industries to serve where our capability to design, blueprint, cast, prototype and produce anything dealing with light metal fits the need of our customer. We are willing and ready to offer our services at any state of development, but feel our real strength is in the complete package – design through production. Paul Hohnstein, the founder of Hastings Irrigation Pipe Company, was named Nebraska Entrepreneur of the Year in 1995.
On September 12, 1997, Hastings Irrigation Pipe Company received the Outstanding Nebraska Industry Award presented by Nebraska governor, Ben Nelson. This award was in recognition of the important contribution to the economic base and economic stability of the state of Nebraska through the company’s successful history.
