It's going to be a gorgeous day for the market!! Downtown Hattiesburg Farmers Market at Town Square Park beginning at 3PM. I've got Focaccia's, fresh batch of Cowboy Candy, Bread and Butter Pickles, Eggs, Candles, and you can preorder Whole Chickens for next Wednesday delivery. So many ways to support local at our market: plenty of fresh baked breads and sweet treats, fresh eggs, pet milk, fresh mushrooms, clean meat, natural CBD products, homemade dog treats, creative carpentry, local honey, homemade natural health and body products (soaps, lotions, etc.), artisan fabric work and more! Plus seasonal vegetables, plants, and flowers that I'm sure will be making their way back to the market very soon! Come take a look and enjoy a stroll downtown!

We had a couple of weeks off from the farmers market and it was refreshing and needed more than I realized but I'm so excited to be back this Thursday at the Downtown Hattiesburg Farmers Market! I've missed my regular faces. π Little announcement regarding βοΈ π π«π’ππ§ππ¬π‘π’π© ππ«ππππ¬ βοΈ For a few different reasons, I have decided for now that Friendship Breads will be offered by ππ«π ππ«πππ« ππ§π₯π²! This means you can Pre Order & Prepay for Wednesday local deliveries or for Thursday farmers market pick up. I will no longer have them with me weekly at the Thursday market unless I have extras from Pre Orders before a market (each recipe yields 3 large breads). You can order these ahead of time by messaging me or ordering at the farmers market for delivery or pick up the following week. Orders must be recieved at least 2 days before your anticipated delivery/pick up day. These types of breads aren't something I can whip up in a matter of hours, they take a little more TLC than your average sweet breads. Flavor options for Friendship Breads are Banana, Cinnamon Sugar, Double Chocolate, Lemon, & Pumpkin Spice. Don't be intimidated by those whole chickens! I hear often that cooking/cutting/shredding a whole chicken can be a bit overwhelming. π¨ It works the same in all areas of life - anything brand new can be nerve racking, but with a little experience, I promise you'll get more comfortable and be an expert in no time! π€ By cooking a whole chicken in a crockpot, instant pot, or roasting pan you'll end up with: β’ MEAT β’ BROTH β’ VEGGIES β’ & BONES FOR MORE BROTH! See that?! π Multiple outcomes! Plus endless options for using your shredded chicken. (salads, casseroles, sandwiches, dips, soups. SO many options!) That is, if you choose to go that route vs just eating it straight off the bones, which is also another great & quick option! ππ We are currently sold out of chicken breasts until our next processing date, which is on hold for a bit. So, if you're interested in trying our pasture raised, organic & no soy fed chicken meat - you'll get the best bang for your buck by taking advantage of our available whole chickens. For my method in this quick video, I cooked a 5.8lb whole chicken on low for about 9hrs with carrots, celery, garlic cloves, 1 cup of water, 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar, a few pinches of italian herbs, salt, and pepper. (Feel free to add more veggies, like potatoes.) I ended up with 4 cups of broth, a couple servings of veggies (carrots, celery, and garlic), 2.96lbs of shredded meat, and a bowl of bones to use for yet another round of broth. P.S. Don't forget to save those bones 𦴠when you cook our leg quarters as well! Just stick them in a freezer bag or freezer safe container to collect until you have enough for that next batch of super healing broth. π± Scary Story Time! Just kidding. π Sharing a little trick we use to combat the tomato hornworm population in our caterpillar tunnel/greenhouse. Use a black light at night, the worms will glow, making it much easier to spot them! π Plus they like to hide during the day. There are also other things you can do to combat them such as interplanting beneficial companion plants (marigold, nasturtium, basil, dill & more), tilling your soil in late fall or early spring to kill larvae, or spraying insecticides. 1. We missed the mark this year on interplanting companions. 2. We avoid tilling as much as possible. 3. We never use synthetic sprays. So this is our method for now. π Sometimes we feed them to the chickens but alot of the time I'm hard-core and take out my frustrations toward them a little harshly. π€·ββοΈπ

Also not videoed are many more hours of work from Ben drilling holes out for fresh healthier soil, leveling the rows and walkways, fixing some irrigation issues, planting cucumbers and tomatoes, as well as tons of help from our awesome friend Rachel Viescas. Organic gardening comes with lots of trial and error because we prefer not to till, never use quick fix sprays, and avoid synthetic laced soils, etc etc. We're always in the race against time and nature around here π and were not able to bring the tractor through to completely remove the not so good soil to replace entire length with good soil but - this is progress! π Now to keep my little farm girl from eating every single cherry tomato with even a smidge of red on it. π₯΄π #greenhouse #organicgardening #caterpillartunnel #smallfarm #summergarden #homegrown #hardwork #progress #progressnotperfection
