Today the Church celebrates the parents of the Virgin Mary, the grandparents of Jesus, Saints Joachim and Anne. đ„° Praying for all grandparents and their children and grandchildren . May the Holy extended families in our lives be blessed and grow in holiness. May God draw them back to his Sacred Heart đđŒâ€ïž And through Maryâs Immaculate Heart đđŒđ
Prayer ought to be short and pure, unless it be prolonged by the inspiration of Divine grace.
- Saint Benedict
Success in Christâs eyes is very different from success in the worldâs eyes. In a certain sense, success in Christâs eyes is measured precisely by how we respond to failures in the worldâs eyes. Both the house built on sand and the one built on rock are bound to suffer storms. Something terrible some kind of failure or disaster is going to strike both of them. In the face of that storm, the house built on sand will collapse, and the house built on rock will endure. If we are putting our faith in Jesus and making our day-to-day decisions in accordance with his wisdom and grace, we are building our lives on rock ( The Church ) And so, even when persecution comes, or rejection, or any kind of suffering, we will be ready for it. And because we are anchored in Christâs truth and love, we will stand strong in the face of it. That, in Christâs eyes, is success. Not vast amounts of wealth, not immense popularity, not power and pleasure those things are secondary at best. They are not bad in themselves, but they will never fill our hearts with the stuff of lasting happiness. If we organize our lives seeking fulfillment in anything besides our relationship with Christ, eventually the storm will come and we will be sorely disappointed, maybe even for all eternity, if we donât repent in time. And that is the only real failure we need be afraid of: âThe rain fell, the floods came, and the winds blew and buffeted the house. And it collapsed and was completely ruined.â

Jesus said to his disciples: âNow I am going to the one who sent me, and not one of you asks me, âWhere are you going?â But because I told you this, grief has filled your hearts. But I tell you the truth, it is better for you that I go. For if I do not go, the Advocate will not come to you. But if I go, I will send him to you.â
(John 16:5â7)
Throughout our lives, our Lord will call us to change. At times, He calls us away from that with which we are familiar and comfortable, and He calls us to something new. Though dramatic change is not necessarily a regular occurrence throughout life, most everyone will experience change at various moments in life. And when that change occurs in accord with the will of God, it must be embraced with hope and great expectationâŠ.. Since the Gospel passage above specifically refers to the change that comes from the outpouring of the Holy Spirit, it might be helpful to consider the fact that whenever some new change takes place in our lives, the Holy Spirit is there, waiting to enter into the new situation in ways we could have never imaginedâŠ.. Reflect, tonight, upon anything that our Lord may be asking of you in regard to a change in your life. Are you open, ready and willing to do whatever He asks? Or are you fearful or grieved by the thought of some change. Be open to anything our Lord asks of you and know that the full embrace of His holy will is the only path to true happiness in life.
My dear Jesus, You prepared Your disciples for the new life of grace that they would receive after Your death and Resurrection. Though fearful and uncertain, they embraced the new life You called them to live, and You did marvelous things through them. Please open my heart to the full embrace of my vocation and any changes that You desire for my life. I say âYesâ to You, my Lord, and pray that You work powerfully through me by the Holy Spirit. Jesus, I trust in You.

Fun night with friends đđ„°KENTUCKY BOURBON TASTING!
My dear people of God,
You are invited to come participate in a Liturgy of the Word at Holy Spirit in Holly Lake.Tomorrow evening Thursday April 25.
The liturgy will focus on the healing power of the Holy Spirit and the comforting of the Sick. The Word of God will fill us with joy. The celebration includes the anointing with water and blessed oil, Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, laying on of hands and wonderful praise and Worship music.
All are welcome, and please feel free to bring with you any friends who are in need of the healing power of the Holy Spirit. Whether or not they share our Catholic faith is not important.
Matthew's Gospel says that "News about him spread all over Syria, and people brought to him all who were ill with various diseases, those suffering severe pain, the demon-possessed, those having seizures, and the paralyzed; and he healed them."
Today, on the Fourth Sunday of Easter, we celebrate Good Shepherd Sunday. It is a day when we reflect upon the tender image of Jesus as the Shepherd of us all. It is also a day set aside to pray for more shepherds within our Church who will shepherd Godâs flock with the Heart of ChristâŠ.. Reflect, today, upon the calling you have received to lay down your life for others in imitation of the Good Shepherd. In order to imitate this love in the Heart of Christ, we must love without seeking love in return. Laying our lives down is an act of sacrificial love that enables us to look only at the needs of those around us. Pride and selfishness must disappear, and the good of the other must become our only goal. Reflect upon how well you do this, and pray that the Good Shepherd will use you to shepherd those in your life who need it the most.

Easter Vigil in the Holy Night
Holy Saturday with Mother Mary
She knew her Son would rise. She had hope beyond hope. Her faith was certain. Her love kept her vigilant as she awaited the return of her Son. For many centuries, it has been suggested that the first person to whom Jesus appeared after His Resurrection was His own mother. Pope Saint John Paul II believed this. Saint Ignatius of Loyola believed it. And many others throughout the centuries shared this belief. For these reasons, Holy Saturday is an ideal day to ponder the pondering heart of our Blessed Mother. There are several times in Sacred Scripture where we are told that Mother Mary pondered the mysteries of her Sonâs life in her heart. She was one of the few who stood by Him in His agony and death. She stood before the Cross and prayerfully pondered His perfect sacrifice. The Blessed Mother held His dead body in her arms and pondered where His spirit had gone. And today she keeps vigil, pondering His imminent return to her. Ponder her pondering heart. Try to unite your own heart with hers. Try to understand what she was thinking and hoping. Try to feel what she felt this sorrowful day. Try to experience her faith, her trust and her joyful expectation.
So many people in this world walk in despair and confusion. So many have lost hope in the new life that awaits them. So many have their own form of interior death without allowing God to draw them into His Resurrection. So many people today need the hope that was so alive in the heart of our Blessed Mother that first Holy Saturday.
Ponder the reality of Holy Saturday in silence this day and allow the glorious heart of our Blessed Mother to inspire you and draw you more deeply into her life of faith, hope and love.

This evening Catholics around the world will gather to celebrate the moment when Jesus instituted the Eucharist. Of course, we do that at every Mass, but tonight we will do it in a way that happens only once a year. We will relive Jesusâ act of washing the feet of his disciples. At first glance, it might seem that the only thing these two actions have in common is that Jesus performed them both at the Last Supper. But his words to his disciples that night reveal that he was in fact creating an inseparable bond between them. First, when he washed his disciplesâ feet, Jesus told them, âI have given you a model to followâ (John 13:15, emphasis added). That âmodelâ wasnât just the foot washing; it was Jesusâ entire life. It was the model of a servant who washed peopleâs feet throughout his ministry. Every time Jesus healed someone, forgave someone, or welcomed someone, he was humbling himself to lift them up. So to follow Jesusâ model means to bend down and serve. It means to put the needs of someone else ahead of our own. It means obeying his command to âlove one anotherâ as he has loved us (John 13:34). Then, when he instituted the Eucharist, Jesus pointed his disciples to his greatest act of self-sacrificial love: the cross. Just as he had poured himself out during his entire ministry, now he would pour himself out completelyâBody, Blood, Soul, and Divinityâto rescue us from sin. So when he said, âDo this in remembrance of meâ (1 Corinthians 11:24), he was telling us not only to share the Eucharist together but also to be Eucharist to each other. He was telling us to offer our lives in love and serviceâto wash each otherâs feet. So when you come to Mass tonight, fix your eyes on Jesus, who has given himself as a model for you. Watch him pour himself out as he washes feet and offers his Body and Blood. Let the depth of his love captivate you. Then go and do likewise.
âJesus, thank you for your Body and Blood! As I receive you today, may I become more like you!â

Happy Epiphany Sunday everybody!!
This quotation from Pope Saint John Paul II summarizes it nicely and it is very inspiring.
âIt is Jesus in fact that you seek when you dream of happiness; He is waiting for you when nothing else you find satisfies you; He is the beauty to which you are so attracted; It is He who provokes you with that thirst for fullness that will not let you settle for compromise; it is He who urges you to shed the masks of a false life; it is He who reads in your hearts your most genuine choices, the choices that others try to stifle. It is Jesus who stirs in you the desire to do something great with your lives, the will to follow an ideal, the refusal to allow yourselves to be grounded down by mediocrity, the courage to commit yourselves humbly and patiently to improving yourselves and society, making the world more human and more fraternalâ

Weekly Bulletin
Dear Friends,
As we begin the month of August, I encourage all of us to look toward the middle of the month, August 15th, the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. I can speak for myself that over the years I have grown to understand more fully the significance of this middle of August solemnity. Although this event is not recorded in Sacred Scripture, as Catholics, we know that the Blessed Virgin Mary was assumed into heaven by the power of the Holy Spirit. It is a good reminder that although elements of our Catholic faith may not be explicitly mentioned in Scripture, they are held in faith because we know the Holy Spirit has guided Christâs bride to proclaim these truths.
Pope Pius XII defined Maryâs Assumption into heaven as a dogma of the Roman Catholic Church in 1950, stating, âthe Immaculate Mother of God, the ever-Virgin Mary, having completed the course of her earthly life, was assumed body and soul into heaven.â Pope Pius issued this statement in an apostolic constitution entitled, Munificentissimus Deus, in which he explains that this is a long-held belief of the Catholic Church that he is now expressing explicitly as a dogma.
All of this is important because it highlights the Blessed Virgin Maryâs unique role in Godâs plan of salvation. As the woman chosen by God to be the mother of his Son, Mary was conceived without sin as expressed in the dogma of her Immaculate Conception, and she passed from this earthly life in a way befitting the only sinless human being. Mary has much to teach us. Through our baptism, we are called to live a life free of sin and full of grace. Although we stumble and fall along this journey, let us continue to seek to be free of sin and thus more fully alive in Godâs grace. Godâs mercy is abundant and his will for us is to be forgiven and renewed in his grace if only we will humbly confess our sins and strive to live his Truth.
In Christ,
Bishop Joseph Strickland
