We are so excited to see our Wine Country Barn, a collaboration with , on this month’s cover of ! Our fantastic clients shared that “Since the renovation, we spend as much, if not more, time outside than inside, including the winter, given the use of ceiling heaters and the fire pit... We practically live in the outdoor barn, sipping coffee in the morning on the patio facing the valley vineyards and cooking meals in the outdoor kitchen, whether it’s just the two of us or we’re hosting a group of friends.” Find the article on newsstands soon, or follow the link in our bio to see a digital version now!

Kitchen garden in Carneros, with raised beds constructed using leftover paving material.
Our own home in Healdsburg. A flat lawn might have been easier, but it just wouldn't hold the same sense of discover and surprise that we've achieved with a terraced garden.
"Jennifer and Mike Lucas, principals in Lucas & Lucas, a landscape architecture firm, met at Cal Poly Pomona, where each was pursuing a graduate degree in design. Their renovated home, where they live with their two children, represents their vision of the classic California indoor-outdoor lifestyle. And in the same way that the home flows between inside and out, the couple moves seamlessly across design disciplines. Often, Mike envisions the big picture, while Jennifer focuses on the practicalities of ex*****on. “It’s important to both of us that the different fields work together, that the land informs the architecture, and the architecture makes sense in the landscape,” explains Jennifer." -- Abigail Peterson, Sonoma Magazine

Design inspiration -- a 10-foot long sink carved from a single slab of wood.
Indoor-outdoor pool house set in a meadow that waves in the breeze. A great collaboration with our friend and colleague George Bevan.
A simple meadow mix with just five plant varieties -- pennisetum spathiolatum, mulenbergia dubia, festuca mairei, gaura lindheimeri and verbena bonariensis -- sways in the breeze and adds movement to the garden.
Communing with the garden and inviting the outdoor in. The timber roof structure is calibrated to collect rainwater in winter and provide shade in summer. Design inspiration from Field Architecture

A wine country barn, respectfully set in a subtle landscape both natural and human-inspired, as if it has always been there.
