If you’ve ever been to the San Jacinto Farmers Market as a customer or vendor, you’ve more than likely talked to Marvin Barber. He and his wife Sandy set up every Thursday for at least the last 5 years, possibly more!! Sundays, ever since it started. Sandy makes bowl cozies and kitchen towel sets she crochets so you can hang them from anything. Marvin always had something to share!! The history behind Barber coins, old bullets, he even started my sons coin collection and packaged them for him🥺. Mr. Marvin was in his late 80s and sadly passed away December 15 at his home. When I say we will miss him greatly is an understatement. He’s a wonderful example of how a man should treat his wife. If you tried to help him set up the canopy or load and unload, you would see the stubborn side that didn’t want help. He could do it on his own, but why let him? He was so nice to us. I’m sorry I didn’t post this sooner but I just couldn’t find the right words to tell the world exactly how wonderful Marvin was. I had a phone call from Sandy last week and she was telling me everything that he would do outside of the market to spoil her rotten and let’s just say, we have some big shoes to fill. After he would set up the booth at the market, he made sure to get her breakfast and sometimes they even got my kid something. Sandy has a big family to help her through this time. I honestly cannot remember how many grandkids and great grandkids… there may even be great great grand kids. Im pretty sure one of those the numbers were in the 50s. I would tell him that I will see him Sunday or Thursday (whenever the next market was) and he would always say Lord willing.
Sandy will be at the market intermittently. Her daughters joined us last Sunday.
Thank you Mr. Marvin for the history lessons, for showing the memorabilia and all the chats. We will miss you deeply.
Pictured is Sandy’s granddaughter and their baby Buddy, Sandy & Marvin.
