Since childhood, Shane Hipps has had his hands on rocks in the mountains of Tennessee, Virginia and North Carolina. As a young man, Shane had his own masonry business. He started with a shovel, a hoe, a wheelbarrow and a 1980 truck that his father let him borrow the money to purchase. One day, while trying to complete a job he only needed a few stones to finish. He went to a local stone yard where he was told he would have to purchase the entire pallet of stone. Since it was a smaller job purchasing the entire pallet of stone took all of his profit. His idea was born! He bought an old forklift and a little piece of property in Swannanoa, NC and started his first retail yard selling only what his customers needed.

Much of our staff is made up of local former stone masons with countless years of experience. Whether you’re an architect, stone mason, landscaper, builder, contractor or home owner we can help you make your next project a success!

Hipps Stone has retail locations in Western North Carolina, Upstate South Carolina and Eastern Tennessee but has shipped stone to all parts of the United States.
