Siannah for El Camino College Board of Trustees

Good afternoon! Although the results aren't final, I think it's fair to say I lost the election, but I gained so much more from the process. I made new friends along the campaign trail who I never would have crossed paths with before this. Some of them even went to bat for me with their friends and families. I met people with different political backgrounds who were open to listening to me, and we had meaningful discussions without being hostile or disrespectful towards each other. I put myself out there, and looking back, I didn't know how brave I was in doing so. I learned it doesn't matter how qualified you are or that you have the best intentions, you still need to fundraise in order to get your message out there. I didn't feel comfortable fundraising (for myself), so that was the biggest lesson during this toe-dip into politics. I did take a week off campaigning to attend the World Series for 3 games — do I regret it? Absolutely NOT. I got to see my Dodgers win! In short, I'm still the same Siannah I was before Election Day, but with more friends and more confidence. I'm grateful for everyone who supported me during this campaign, and we'll see what adventure I get into next. Congratulations to Trisha and I hope she takes care of El Camino in a fair and just way.

El Camino College will always hold a special place in my heart. Thank you all so much for joining the Siannah Swarm and making this day so exciting for me. 🦋

This afternoon I went to El Camino College with Mike and Desi to cast our votes. After being in campaign mode for the past 3 months, I stopped to soak in the moment. Here I was reading my name on a ballot during probably one of the most important elections of our history. It was only fitting that I voted at the place where it all started. I was 17 when I began my education at ECC and I registered to vote for the November 3rd, 1998 elections. I never thought that 22 years later I would be voting for myself. As a little girl I was considered ESL and my parents delivered newspapers for a living. During this campaign I was interviewed by the same paper they delivered. Isn’t this what the American Dream is all about? If elected I hope to ensure others are able to live their American Dream through higher education. The outcome is out of my hands at this point, but I want to thank everyone who has supported me along the way with their votes, endorsements, posting signs, telling their friends and family, posting on social media, donating, etc. I am proud of what I’ve done and how I’ve presented myself with integrity, authenticity and humility. I know I can look at Desi in 20 years and tell her mommy was doing her part. Please do your part and . 🗳💙
