Dear Brothers,

As we gather in the warmth of the holiday season, may the guiding principles of Freemasonry illuminate our hearts with fellowship, compassion, and shared purpose. In the spirit of unity, let us reflect on the bonds that connect us, transcending time and tradition.

During this festive time, may the square and compass symbolize not only our commitment to moral and ethical principles but also the joy of giving and receiving. Let the compass guide us towards acts of kindness, and the square remind us to maintain balance in our lives.

As we exchange greetings and gifts, may the spirit of charity prevail, both within our distinguished brotherhood and in our interactions with the wider community. Let the lessons of Freemasonry inspire us to be pillars of support for those in need, extending our hands in brotherly love.

In the spirit of the season, may the Lodge be filled with the warmth of camaraderie, the joy of shared laughter, and the harmony of shared ideals. As we celebrate the light that brightens our path, let us also remember those less fortunate and endeavor to spread the light of through benevolence.

Wishing you and your loved ones a Happy Holiday, Merry Christmas and a New Year filled with the blessings of fellowship, wisdom, and prosperity.

Fraternally,

Matthew J. Hamill
Worshipful Master

Due to COVID-19 Closures, BSA Troop 1530 (Fairfax) was unable to hold their regular Fall Court of Honor in their traditional location. Herndon Lodge was happy to provide a single use space for the Troop to recognize Scouts and Adult Scouters of their recent achievements. Herndon Lodge has been a benefactor of several Eagle Scout projects in recent years and hopes to continue the long history of Scouting and Masonry.

Our September Stated Meeting is tonight and normally we would be enjoying the company of Friends and Brothers and potential new members and visitors over dinner. But with COVID restrictions, we are suspending our meals and limiting our meetings to mostly business needs.

For any Brother who wishes to visit tonight, our Lodge MAHOVA Rep will be speaking about the Masonic Home of Virginia. Meeting is at 7:30 and the Master has informed the dress code is "Business Casual."

Anyone who is interested in Masonry, please feel free to reach out as we are still meeting with potential members (socially distanced) and talking about the Fraternity.

To many Masons visiting Lodges not their own, the Tyler is often the first Brother whom they encounter. The Tyler is essentially an outer "guard" to the Lodge and checks the Masonic credentials of the visiting Brother who wishes to enter. In a bit of humor given the problematic nature of COVID-19, enjoy this proposed new apron for the Tyler!

Stay safe Friends and Brothers and we hope to be back in Lodge with you all soon!

Today's Masonic Monday is in the form of friendship and affection for our Traveling Brothers from across the country. Herndon Lodge is lucky enough to have this exact same Mediation in our historic collection. Virginia and Pennsylvania are both strong Masonic states and we share lots of common history.

The striking of a Grand Master's Medallion is a tradition of the Grand Lodge of Pennsylvania going back more than 50 years. Larger than a "challenge coin," these medallions are displayed with pride by Brothers and Lodges across the Commonwealth. Traditionally, a Grand Master will present a medallion to a Lodge that he visits or to an outstanding Brother who has provided assistance to him. They are not officially an "award" but rather a token of esteem presented by the Grand Master. Shown here is an example from Past Grand Master John L. McCain's term of service.
