Cars line up at our entrance gate on Chestnut off of C Ave.

Please note: our USDA supplier didn't have any boxes/bags for this month's distribution, so all items will be hand-loaded into your vehicle individually.

We have approximately 16 items to load. Items will be grouped into 2 sections, and you'll be required to follow the traffic coordinator's instructions as you move along the line to each section.

The items we receive from our supplier may be different than what's on their website. For tomorrow, we have:

📢 Reminder: High Desert Second Chance Closed for Labor Day

In observance of Labor Day, High Desert Second Chance will be closed on Monday, September 2nd.

On Wednesday evening, Victor Valley High School had its first annual Back to School night for various organizations to share resources and information for students and their families.

High Desert Second Chance accepted the invitation in order to share what our food bank has to offer to all families who reside in the High Desert community.

In addition to being one of the largest food banks in the high desert with vast outreach through our various programs, we offer other services in addition to free food.

Our volunteer representatives Heidi and Mike, who have many years of experience and knowledge with our organization, were on hand and on site to present and address any and all inquiries that parents and students had.

They have first hand knowledge of all of our programs, from homeless services, senior outbound delivery service, mortgage and utility assistance, free clothing distribution, student lunches, holiday events and much more!

Thank you to Veronica and Ana for the invite and for the outstanding hospitality and organization.

We appreciate the opportunity and look forward to participating in more events with you.

And a special thank you to Mike and Heidi for your extraordinary commitment to service and to HDSC.

New opportunity for an HR Manager in the High Desert!

Thank you Life Church and Victor Valley Transit Authority for hosting a fill the bus clothing Drive! This has been a huge impact to the families we serve.

We thank all of our volunteers who came out to serve the community by sorting, folding, hanging and organizing the clothing closet! Nearly 30 hours labor of love by our team!The heat was extreme but we made it through!

Life Church! 🙌 Your donations have served over 600 families in the High Desert! 🌵 Today, at the High Desert Second Chances clothing drive, 659 families came out and were blessed by the clothes donated from Stuff The Bus. 🚌 That is AMAZING!! 🎉 We’re sowing so many seeds this week for High Desert We Love You, and while we may never know the full impact, we know we’re truly being the church in our community. 💒❤️

Together We Are Better

Barstow's Back To School In Style Community event happened this past Saturday, and it was a delight for High Desert Second Chance to have the opportunity to meet and provide information to Barstow residents.

Many of them were surprised and happy to know that, through our greater High Desert Food Collaborative, quite a few food resources and food distributions are available to Barstow residents.

For example, HDSC sends a truckload of food to New Hope Villages' food distribution every Friday morning. Pallets of fresh produce and dry goods are distributed at New Hope's site and it's open to all Barstow residents.

We also demonstrated a sample portion of our food donations, so prospective clients can see and know what to expect from our food pantry. From produce to dry goods, our volunteer representatives informed attendees of just how their High Desert food pantry can impact their household budget, should they choose to participate in all of our free programs.

With appreciation and thanks to our volunteer representatives, who took the time to lay out to each attendee the various food programs available to them and encouraged them to utilize these services.

Overall, it was a positive experience and High Desert Second Chance felt welcomed into the community, as we look forward to being of further assistance to each person who desires our service.

Tomorrow, Wednesday August 14th, Feeding America Riverside San Bernardino Counties, arrives at High Desert Second Chance for its Senior Mobile Pantry food distribution program.

Beginning at 9 a.m. and ending at 11 a.m., High Desert Second Chance will assist Feeding America in distributing the food boxes to the first 200 people who attend.

Please note that Feeding America is limiting the supplies to 200, so a "first come, first serve" will be in effect.

Although the program focuses on the senior population, no one of any age will be denied.

Entrance to our parking is at the gate on Chestnut St.

If you drive into our structure from Smoke Tree, you will be redirected.

No one will be admitted into the parking lot until our gate opens at 9 a.m.

We anticipate heavy vehicle traffic and our parking is confined, so we ask that each person driving into our parking lot adhere to the traffic controls that will be in place. You must park where you are directed to keep the traffic flowing smoothly.

Also, High Desert Second Chance's emergency food pantry will be open and in full operation tomorrow, beginning at 10 a.m. and ending at 3 p.m.

If you are picking up from Feeding America, you are welcome to pick up food from the Emergency Food Pantry if it is your allocated time to pick up.

Dynamic, engaging and educational: that was the takeaway from the Black Infant Health event that High Desert Second Chance participated in this past Thursday.

We are so glad that we were asked to participate, as Ms. Tonia and Ms. Debbie organized a fantastic event for the community to attend.

They had some of the most captivating speakers we've encountered.

Talisa from Doula127, Dr. Kria, Daisy, and Isabel from IEHP provided the audience with educational and interactive conversation. Each speaker was simply amazing.

HDSC is extremely honored to be a part of your mission to support and acknowledge the Black Infant Health | High Desert program, empowering moms and their babies to ensure a happy and healthy life.

HDSC was represented by Darlene and Esmeralda, two of our wonderful long-time volunteers, for representing HDSC at this event. They engaged with the attendees and provided essential information about our healthy food programs that can be impactful to parents and their kids, in terms of a healthy body and budget. With love and appreciation, thank you to both of you.

And thank you to Black Infant Health for including us in your fabulous event.

Cities throughout the nation participated in National Night Out this past Tuesday, providing the community an opportunity for them to engage with its city personnel, including emergency services and the local police.

High Desert Second Chance participated at the Hesperia Civic Plaza's event, joining many other local organizations in presenting ourselves to the community as its local food bank that's available to every member of the High Desert on Monday through Thursday and Saturday, as well.

Thank you to our selfless volunteers, who after working their "real" jobs all day, made their day even longer by representing HDSC after hours and throughout the evening, all the while greeting each and every participant with information, kindness and graciousness. Kathy and Lisa, your presence was very much appreciated. Thank you.
