Every year, on June 14th, countries around the world celebrate World Blood Donor Day. This event serves to raise awareness of the need for safe blood and blood products and to thank blood donors for their life-saving gifts of blood. Blood is an important resource for both planned treatments and urgent interventions.
Pets need blood donors too. Animals, like humans, have different blood types. Blood transfusions have many uses in veterinary medicine. Sometimes, an animal’s immune system can attack its own red blood cells (immune-mediated hemolytic anemia), and blood transfusions are necessary to prevent fatal anemia while medical treatment is working. Blood loss through injury such as trauma or other causes of bleeding, like rodenticide or rat bait poisoning, can be treated with blood transfusions. In these circumstances, a transfusion can make all the difference!

Please help us welcome Dr. Katelyn Molinaro to CASE! 💙
Dr. Molinaro grew up in a small town in Pennsylvania just outside of Scranton (yes, the city from The Office). She earned her veterinary degree from the University of Pennsylvania, and, fun fact, her degree is "VMD" (instead of "DVM") because UPenn uses the Latin terminology for its veterinary degrees.
After graduation, Dr. Molinaro completed a general practice & emergency internship at Animal Medical Hospital in Charlotte before going on to work in general practice, shelter medicine, high quality/high volume spay & neuter, and emergency medicine.
She loves the variety veterinary medicine offers and regularly uses skills and knowledge from her diverse background in the ER. Dr. Molinaro is fear-free certified (FFCP) and uses fear-free techniques to reduce her patients' stress.
Dr. Molinaro resides in Charlotte with her partner, a scruffy little mutt (with an adorable underbite), and three chaotic cats. When she's not working, you can find her tending to houseplants, walking her dog, and spending time with family & friends.
We're thrilled to have her as part of the CASE team!
