Read about this mother-daughter duo! Thankful to have such caring and passionate women at Catawba and as Fitness Plus members 👏
This Mother’s Day, we want to recognize one of the many mother-daughter duos who work within Catawba Valley Medical Center.
Stephanie Chapman serves our hospital as Assistant Vice President of Nursing, and her daughter, Katelyn Milsaps, serves as a Patient Care Manager. Stephanie has worked at CVMC for 25 years, and Katelyn has worked here for 18 years – a combined 43 years of exceptional patient care experience between them.
When asked why they choose to work at CVMC, they said:
“When I first came to work at Catawba in 1998, I knew I was in a different place,” Stephanie shared. “When making organizational decisions, the primary focus is always the patient. I am surrounded by staff who passionately take care of patients with a positive attitude and are always willing to help each other.”
Katelyn said, “When my mom started working at Catawba, I saw how happy she was, and she encouraged me to get my first job at Catawba as a dietary aide while I was in high school. Soon after that, I started working as a nurse aide on the Medical unit after getting my nursing assistant certificate, and I loved the atmosphere. Everyone was so positive and really cared about our patients. I have never had any desire to leave Catawba as I transitioned from a nursing assistant to bedside RN and now a Patient Care Manager. Within all the roles I have worked at Catawba, the patient has remained the focus and I have always felt support from leadership.”
Stephanie and Katelyn are grateful that they get to work together every day, and happy that they both get to contribute to our community through the care they provide. “We have a shared interest in helping others and I get to see her excel in her job, which makes me proud both as a mother and a nurse. I also get to see her every day, which is nice,” Stephanie said. Katelyn agreed, sharing “I love seeing mom every day. We do share an interest in patient care and helping others. I have her to look up to and she has always coached me and encouraged me as a nurse. I can always come to her for advice on how to handle situations and I trust her opinion because of her leadership abilities and experience.”
Today, we celebrate all those throughout our hospital who play a role in achieving our mission: “Exceptional Healthcare. Every Patient. Every Time.” Happy Mother’s Day!
