ABUS for Dense Breasts
Annual mammograms are the best way to catch breast cancer early, but not all breasts are the same. Dense breast tissue can mask the appearance of tumors, making it more difficult for mammography to detect cancer. If you are one of the 40% of women with dense breast tissue, your provider may recommend automated breast ultrasound (ABUS) for additional screening and added peace of mind. We have another Best of the Best coming your way! The RN winner for this quarter is Teresa Cone, RN, from telemetry. Teresa made a huge impact on one of her recent patients. She had a patient who came in for open heart surgery. This patient was a local pastor, and was extremely nervous for his surgery. The night before his surgery, Teresa was providing care for him when he mentioned his fears about the surgery. She explained to him what the surgery would entail and what to expect when he woke up. Teresa then prayed with this patient. He said, "She didn't push it on me, I was the pastor, but she knew what I needed." He says her prayer helped him in that moment after surgery when they were removing his breathing tube. Teresa's nominator said, "I remember those nights on telemetry and how busy we were. I also remember how Teresa took that time to be with that patient and comfort him." For Teresa to take a few extra minutes to relieve his anxieties, hold a hand and say a simple prayer, it just shows the compassion and care she has in her heart. Teresa was his lifeline that night and the day after; she truly is the best of the best. The Best of the Best Award and Recognition Program is Frye Regional Medical Center's way of honoring its highest performing staff and physicians--those who strive to demonstrate Frye Regional’s motto of “Our Best, Every Day” and exemplify the five Best of the Best standards: compassion, reliability, communication, courtesy/respect, and safety. #BestoftheBest #Nurse #Nursing
