Our 2024 McDowell County Technical Rescuer Certification Series Begins Tomorrow Night at MTCC Folks!!!

I am devastated at the loss of one of my former students Rescue Technician Bill Zimmerman of Haywood County Search & Rescue. Bill was truly an inspiration to so many others and his passion to serve others. He began his training with me during the 2018 Wilderness Weekend Exercise and put him on rope for the first time and he was instantly hooked after that class! His legacy will carry on as his organs have been donated to save another life!

Our TR Vehicle Rescue Technician series begins May 7th at McDowell Tech Community College at 6pm in the Harold Smith Building.

If you are currently a qualified Level 2 Technical Rescue Instructor and live within the Burke County Region and looking to get your foot in the door teaching abroad in Western, NC. I am looking for several Technical Rescuer Instructors to start teaching for Western Piedmont Community College for our upcoming TR Series beginning next week and through September. If you are NOT currently qualified but looking to become a TR Instructor you can serve in our Instructor Apprentice Program to experience what it takes to become an instructor.
Look over the dates and message me if you are interested and come by my office to get you setup as an instructor for WPCC.

Valleytown FD Hell Week Scenario #2. Two patients trapped from slough-in trench cave- in. Confined Space Rescue of a "would be rescuer" who entered the pipe string to rescue his co-worker (pt. #2) who is trapped by a 600lb pipe and 5' of soil on pelvic region. Patient #2 is trapped half-way inside and out of pipe after attempting to escape cave-in by diving into the pipe.

Night #1 of Valleytown FIre Special Ops. Hell Week begins with a simulated window washer stage accident with one patient hanging from a fall arrest and a 2nd patient trapped on the simulated stage (roof ladder). Not an easy task immobilizing a 190lb. manikin into a half-back 45' off the ground on a swaying roof ladder all while hanging on rope.
Objectives were met using twin tensioning rope systems, pick-off rescues, Clutch, MPD, Long tailed interlacing Bowline Rigging and Azteks and basic rapelling using Rescue 8's descender.
Great work folks...Night #2 Heavy Vehicle Rescue and Lifting Ops. tomorrow.
