The legend of Brigid’s cloak is often told. It’s the story about the manner in which she came to acquire the land to build her monastery at Kildare. It is often regarded as one of the first miracles associated with her cloak.
She approached the King of Leinster requesting the land on which to build her monastery. The place she selected in Kildare was ideal. It was near a lake where water was available, in a forest where there was firewood and near a fertile plain on which to grow crops. The King refused her request. Brigid was not put off by his refusal. Rather, she and her sisters prayed that the King’s heart would soften. She made her request again but this time she asked, “Give me as much land as my cloak will cover.”

Nassau Couny, Ancient Order of Hibernians, NY City St. Patrick's Day Parade
Thank you to all the Hibernians that came out, on a workday, in the rain, to March in Honor of Saint Patrick.
This years Parade showed how important it is to us to promote our culture and live out our motto. It also helped people come back from the Pandemic.
The Ancient Order of Hibernians Nassau County, with representitives from all our Nine Divisions were led up the Avenue by the Hicksville High School Marching Comets.
This years Grand Marshal was an alumni of the school.
The “ Hicksville High School Marching Comets " took first place, last October in the division for Large Schools at the NY State Competition.
I'm sending you this video of our efforts that day. Time to start planing for Friday, March 17th, 2023 - for the 262nd NYC Parade.
