Have you ever heard of a lemon cucumber before? We tried growing them in the Library Courtyard using seeds from our Seed Library and it worked! They look like prickly lemons but they taste like cucumbers. Ours were slightly sweeter than regular cucumbers. Yummy!

Has anyone grown anything this summer using our seeds? Feel free to share pix!

We were pretty excited to have a book returned to Hicksville Library nearly 50 YEARS after its due date! "Coney Island of the Mind" by Lawrence Ferlinghetti was due back on June 13, 1974, and we received it back on April 22, 2024.
This slim volume of poetry has over a million copies in print, Ferlinghetti passed away in 2021, but is known for his writing as well as starting City Lights bookstore and City Lights Press in San Francisco.
He was arrested for publishing Allen Ginsberg's HOWL in 1956 and published other notable authors like Jack Kerouac, William Carlos Williams, and more. Ferlinghetti lived in France, San Francisco, and also lived on Long Island for a time!
Thanks for returning this little gem in history!
Regents exams are right around the corner! We have Barron's test prep books for Algebra 1, 2, Living Environment, Chemistry, Geometry, Physics, English, Earth Science, and more!
