Imago Dei Soccer

Imago Dei Soccer

Programs focused on high level training, technical development, and intentional discipleship. Imago Dei is latin for "Image of God".

Our mission is to glorify God & see lives transformed by sharing the message of Jesus Christ through the global environment of soccer. We believe each person has incredible value because they are created in the Image of God. God has given each person gifts, talents, & abilities to be used to glorify Him & for His Kingdom. We want to partner with families to develop players, show how soccer can be used as a tool for discipleship, and prepare players for life outside of soccer.

Despite the rain keeping us indoors on the final day, nothing could dampen the spirit of our last week of summer camp! Over 80 kids joined us this week, and while we missed those who couldn’t make it today, we’re already counting down the days until next summer. We’re thankful for 5 amazing weeks of summer camp ☀️ ⚽️

[PART 1]

🌍🇨🇴 Our recent trip to Bello, Medellin, Colombia, was an incredible experience! We brought a team of 22 players and 5 coaches to partner with COSDECOL, a ministry using soccer to spread the Gospel and transform young lives.

We visited displaced communities, interacted with local players and coaches, and, of course, played lots of soccer! Eleven of our players took a significant step in their faith journey by getting baptized. 🙌 We were deeply moved by the testimonies of coaches who shared their stories of overcoming difficult childhoods and finding transformation through the love of Jesus.

[PART 2]

During our stay, we met with the COSDECOL staff for devotionals and worked together on community projects, like clearing drains and restoring the main grass field. Our players also had the opportunity to share their testimonies and lead devotionals with seven different groups across various sectors. We played two official matches with their U20 and U17 teams, which were great opportunities for fellowship and competition.

[PART 3]

The work COSDECOL is doing is truly inspiring, and we are honored to be a small part of their mission. We’re grateful for the chance to witness the impact of their ministry firsthand and look forward to continuing our partnership. 🌟

Tonight we had our last meeting before our trip to Colombia. It was a great time of team building, time in the Word, touching up on some final details, and praying for our time there.

Please be praying for us! Pray for:
- Safe travels tomorrow and on the way back.
- That many lives might be transformed by the Gospel
- That we might always rely on God’s sovereignty and will
- COSDECOL (the ministry in Colombia that will be hosting us)

Stay tuned for more updates 👀

We can’t wait! ✈️ 🇨🇴 ⚽️

Led by Coach Sarah Denton, our U23 Girls Program mixes years of playing and coaching experience with a love for sharing the Gospel.

Here’s some of Coach Sarah’s experience:
- Under-16 National Team star
- All-Conference in soccer all 4 years at Ragsdale High School
- Led Ragsdale High to two State Championships
- Earned All-State honors twice
- Tournament MVP in 1996
- Won two state cups with the Greensboro Twisters in club soccer
- Captained UNC-Charlotte to the 1998 Conference USA Championship
- Honored with the Bonnie Cone Award for Academic Excellence
- Earned a Master’s in Special Education
- Coached men’s and women’s soccer at A.L. Brown High School
- Joined the FC Carolina Alliance staff
- Won Conference Coach of the Year, leading Pfeiffer University to the Conference Carolinas Championship
- Coached at UNC-Charlotte, the Carolina Dynamo, and the Piedmont Triad Football Club
- Currently head girls’ soccer coach and teacher at Wesleyan Christian Academy

These are her goals for the summer:

“My secondary goal for the girls is to give them a safe space to improve the details of their technical skills, increase their speed of play, and improve their fitness levels so that they will be physically confident going into their club seasons.

Though bodily discipline is important, godliness is profitable for ALL things.

Thus, my primary goal is to encourage them to make Jesus famous through knowing, living, and sharing His truth to His image bearers.”

We can’t wait to see what God will do through these sessions!

Last week we started our U23 Summer Program, this year, led by Coach Drew Glover.

Prior to his coaching career, Glover started all four years at center back and defensive center midfield for Indiana Wesleyan. During his time at IWU he was a part of a top-15 team, an NCCAA National Final run, multiple league semi final appearances, and competed against top national programs such as Rio Grande, UNOH, Campbellsville and Lindsey Wilson. His senior year he was named team captain, but his career was cut short due to an ACL injury. Glover has spent time in the summers with the Carolina Dynamo, Charlotte Eagles, and played in the first iteration of the U23 Imago Dei Academy Summer Training Team. At the Charlotte Eagles, Drew was an intern as a game day and operations coordinator. While playing for Imago Dei, Drew also helped coach their youth teams.

From 2020 to 2022, Glover served with his alma-mater Indiana Wesleyan as assistant coach for two seasons. During that time, IWU has posted a record of 17-9-9 and in the 2021 season the team reached the conference championship match. In the Spring of 2022, Glover moved to work as first assistant with Taylor University. He has served as first assistant with Taylor until the Spring of 2024 when he was promoted to Interim-Head Coach and has remained since.

Here’s what he had to say about coaching with Imago Dei Soccer this summer: “I’m very excited to be back home this summer to coach the Imago Dei U23 Summer Program! I had great experiences working with Imago Dei as a player and am honored to now have the opportunity to help guide this group of young men. While I’m looking forward to our matches with USL II and MLS Next Pro sides, it is the opportunity to play a part in the development of each player’s growth technically, tactical proficiency, and most importantly the spiritual maturity of each person involved in our program that excites me the most for this summer.”

Thank you for your heart of service Coach Drew!
