Important Duncan Envisions Update Below!

After announcing last month that the Envisions line will be discontinued on February 1, 2023, we received a number of questions about the future status of individual colors. At Mayco, we pride ourselves on being transparent and want you to be able to plan for the future. We anticipate moving over the below Duncan Envisions glazes into the Mayco Elements and Foundations lines beginning February 1, 2023. Please note the following:

Envision colors moving to the Foundations line will be reformulated and color matched into the Foundations chemistry.
Envisions colors moving into the Elements line, instead of Foundations, is either due to having a health caution seal (we want to keep the Foundations AP Non-Toxic) or because they do not work with Stroke & Coats in design due to lacing. Those formulas will remain unchanged.

Merging colors will keep the name but will have an EL or FN number. Colors not moving into either line is because of direct matches in place or low sales volume. Please keep in mind that this list is subject to change.

Consistency and reliability are important to us here at Mayco. There have been a number of changes in the marketplace due to both national and global issues - inflation, labor shortages, and supply chain issues are the most impactful. We hope this will assist our consumers in planning the next 6-12 months.

-Stroke & Coat and Foundations: 2oz/4oz will be returning to stock in phases. We expect full stock by 12/31/22.

-Clear Glazes: All 4oz clear glaze jars are discontinued. CN2000 Clear Dipping is discontinued in all sizes as of 9/1/22.

-Concepts & Envisions: Due to declined sales and production capacity, Concepts will be discontinued on 9/1/22. Envisions will be discontinued 2/1/2023. Many of the Envision colors have direct matches in the Mayco Foundation line. The Best of Duncan Envisions palette will be merged into the Foundations or Elements line. -Sprays: Gloss, Satin, and Matte Sprays are discontinued due to the discontinuation of the manufacturer’s private label program.
-Bisq-Stain Acrylics: OS431 White and OS476 Black in 16oz will be discontinued on 9/1/22.

-MOLDS: We have struggled with our mold production for some time due to labor shortages and service/part issues with our plaster mixer. As a result, we have made the difficult decision to discontinue mold production. This decision was not easy, given our commitment to this community over the last 30+ years.
However, Mayco molds will live on! A Ceramic Shop will be purchasing all Mayco Molds to produce and sell. They are well known in this market as a manufacturer of several other mold lines.

We are accepting orders from distributors until 8/1/22. However, given our limited staff and equipment, we may have to transfer business over sooner. Mayco distributors will be able to continue to purchase Mayco molds from A Ceramic Shop. There are direct purchasing opportunities as well. -STAMPS & MATS: We were given a 70% increase by our supplier due to the rise in rubber and resin. In addition, the supplier has trouble keeping us in stock. We have decided to discontinue these products.

As 2021 comes to a close, we want to take the time to send gratitude and heartfelt thanks for your continued support and enthusiasm for our products through another crazy year. In 2022, we look forward to bringing you new products to stimulate your creativity - colors, trendy earthenware, and stoneware bisque, slip cast mold designs, and creative tools. Along with our commitment to product quality, we will continue to offer inspiration, education, and technical service to our broad community of educators, hobbyists, teachers, and professionals. And most of all, we look forward to resuming in-person events and seeing all of you - our talented users.

We understand that this past year and a half has put a burden on our distributors' ability to stock items for customers. While we know we are not the only supplier experiencing supply chain issues and labor shortages, we take this problem very seriously and are constantly pursuing ways to improve and increase production, with the least impact on consumers. Following are some actions being implemented immediately:

➊ Color: We are temporarily suspending production of certain sizes in the following product families:
• 2oz of Stroke & Coat, Speckled Stroke & Coat, and Concepts
• 4oz of Foundations and Envisions
• 4oz of Clear Glaze Brushing (S2101, C300, NT-BR, IN1001, PB001, SN351)

We believe it is better to be stocked in all colors of some sizes rather than some colors in all sizes. We currently have an inventory of these sizes, especially the holiday colors, and will continue to sell them until we run out.

➋ Molds: We are temporarily reducing the number of slip cast molds available to order. Focusing on the bestselling, newer, and seasonal molds will allow us to turn molds orders faster by operating more efficiently. We will reevaluate the manufacturing suspension of the glaze sizes and molds in January 2022. Our hope is that things will be back to normal by then and we can resume production for all SKUs.

➌ Slip: We have made the decision to cease production and sales of our earthenware and stoneware slip indefinitely. Slip is labor-intensive to produce, requires a great deal of valuable manufacturing and storage space, and is more a regional product due to expensive freight costs. We will continue to take
orders until October 15 and will manufacture as we can until these orders are filled. We will refer business to other suppliers such as Columbus Clay, Laguna, and Standard, in addition to local suppliers.

We are very eager to resume our normal order turnaround time and 99% color fulfillment that we have prided ourselves on for years. As always, we appreciate your patience and understanding.

Today is a day to remember those who gave the ultimate sacrifice in the United States. We want to extend a a special thank you to all of the brave men and women who have served and are still serving. Have a safe and happy Memorial Day.

Mayco is saddened to hear about the loss of internationally acclaimed ceramic artist, Arlene Dee Smith. Arlene had a highly successful career in teaching ceramics in her own studio, at several ceramic conventions, as a Duncan Ambassador and past President of IADCCT (International Association of Duncan Certified Ceramic Teachers), and was the recipient of numerous awards.

We feel so incredibly honored to have featured one of Arlene's last design projects "Envision Sunflowers" on the cover of Mayco's "Best of Duncan Fired Assortment" brochure.

Arlene's greatest joy in her own words was “to see the expression of amazement, pride and accomplishment on a student’s face when they see their finished pieces”. Arlene will be missed by her family and friends as well as the many, many ceramists who had the privilege of knowing her as a teacher, mentor, and advocate for Ceramic Education and the Ceramic Industry.

Alex Kraft is an Associate Professor at the University of North Georgia. She heads the ceramics program on the Dahlonega campus.

"I had such a great time last with John Oles, Assistant Professor of Ceramics and his 25 ceramics students at Jacksonville State University. For the hands-on workshop in conjunction with a solo show at Hammond Hall Gallery, we created painterly mono-prints after building tarpaper-formed hand-built wall squares. Most students hadn’t worked with Mayco products before, so I felt like I was handing them all candy. They were pretty psyched to try the bright-colored Stroke and Coats, Fundamental Underglazes, and Designer Liners; layering backward, starting with details to create their designs. And now they get to experiment further with the Mayco products in their own bodies of work. What a great experience! Thanks, Mayco for sponsoring this workshop!"
