Muddy Feet Farm
Our roadside farm stand offers farm fresh eggs, hand painted signs, handmade items & seasonal produce
We lost our male guinea Wilson a month or so ago, and his mate is heart broken. So when we found her nest of eggs, we put all 17 in the incubator. For one reason or another, many of the eggs stopped developing. After waiting (very inpatiently) for 28 days, 2 baby guinea hatched!
They are the cutest things as babies! Now we need names that start with “W”, so if you have any suggestions, let us know! We won’t know their s*x for quite awhile, so any W names are fine.
Cera and Spike are enjoying these last warm days of summer! They have an outdoor area to hang out, but we also have been letting them explore the front yard with all the grass and weeds. They really enjoy the dandelions, blackberry leaves and roses.
Spike is super fast and you can’t take your eyes off of him! He has places to go apparently. Cera prefers to take her time and munch on stuff as she explores.
There is over 30 nest boxes in the coop, and these 3 girls fight over who gets to lay in this ONE on our patio 🤣.
We are selling Golden pothos cuttings down at the stand. The cuttings came from a 30+ year old plant!
Come grab a cutting or 2 while they last! Long healthy roots!
Look who has joined the farm! 2 Russian tortoises, that we have named Cera and Spike. (If you know, you know 😉)
They got a nice long soak this morning and some yummy fresh greens.
We had to help a shrink wrapped chick hatch today, and thankfully she is alive and healthy!
This little one was very ready to hatch. All her blood vessels had shunk, and she had absorbed all her yolk, but couldn’t hatch because the membrane had dried up.
We just added a second Little Free Library down at Petrich’s! Stop by sometime and grab a book!
It’s currently not registered, but it will be soon!
Yesterday, we saw a red admiral butterfly, a bunch of bees on our lavender and a fledgling who was having trouble flying. We believe the fledgling is a black-headed grosbeak.
We made some bookmarks from old book pages! Please feel free to grab one when you stop by.
We added a Dino swap to our little free library! Please feel free to take and/ or leave a Dino if you visit!
Our Little Free Library got an upgrade!
If you visit, please sign our guest “book” !
Charter # 187520
Edit- he is home!
Our cat Gus hasn’t been seen in over a week. He went missing sometime during the first week of July.
One of our kids got a butterfly kit for Christmas. We ordered the caterpillars, watched them grow, form their chrysalis and now they have hatched! We have 6 healthy painted lady butterflies. We will be releasing them later today.
Look at this cutie that hatched today! She’s with one of our many broody mamas.
Our little free library is official now! Charter # 187520.
Our new sign is on the way and should be installed this weekend. Our library should show up on the map in the little free library app.
Feel free to take a book(s) and/or leave a book when you come visit our farm stand.
Happy reading!
Our one mason bee hive is almost full, so we hung 2 new ones! I stopped by Smith Berry Barn yesterday and picked up 10 mason bee cocoons for our new hives. When we pulled them out of the fridge today to put the cocoons in their new homes, one little mason bee had already hatched! He flew off after warming up on my hand for about 3 mins.
The other day, we had a friend take up residence in our farm stand doorway. She made a beautiful web and let us admire her for a few mins. I attempted to relocate her and her web, but sadly, I ended up breaking it. I moved her to the side of the stand and hopefully she will make a new web!
It amazes me she was even able to make a web in the door way! We take eggs out at least once a day, and have customers stopping by many times a day She must have made her web really fast!
We got an up close look at a dragonfly! He/she stayed for a quick photo op, then quickly flew off.
I really wish our chickens would lay their eggs in the many many nest boxes we provide! I found a total of 18 eggs at the top of our willow tree “stump”! One fell as I was collecting them and broke.
We had our willow tree “cut down” to a “stump” 2 years ago. The “stump” is a good 12 feet tall and has grown back a ton! I had use the hedge trimmer and a ladder to access the eggs 😂
We really didn’t want the mama to hatch any up there and have a bunch babies falling out of the tree!
We have a young banty hen who insists on laying her egg in the house!
For the past 2 weeks, she would pace in front of our back door until we let her in. It took her about a week to find her “nest”, and she made a huge ruckus until she did.
Now, for the past 5 days or so, I let her in when she comes to the door. She immediately jumps in her spot, spends about 10 mins quietly laying her egg, and then goes back to the door and announces she’s done. I let her out and collect her very fresh egg!
2 of our chicks
Pancake is our “blue” polish who is very cream, and Butters is our salmon favrolle who is sadly a Roo. He was suppose to be a hen.
Mama Nutmeg is doing a great job with her 4 babies. She has taken them all over the yard, showed them where the kitchen scraps get put, where the waterers are and the best places to hide. She doesn’t let any other chickens get near her babies.
Last year we had mason bees move into our mason bee home. Some have hatched out and now we have new bees moving in!
We have a new friend at our farm stand to greet you! When you stop to grab eggs, say hi to Little Foot and snap a selfie!
( I’m showing my age, huh? 🤣🤣)
We get some interesting eggs! One giant one, and 2 very pointy eggs. 🤣
We have 3 hand raised mini alarm clocks that need a new home! They are barnyard mixes, and very sweet! One has a Mohawk, one is a frizzle too and the other is almost all black with a bit of white.
Being chicken tenders (pun intended) is always interesting!
We had a hen go missing about 2 weeks ago and feared the worst. Today one of our kids spotted her, followed her to the neighbors and found the clutch of eggs she’s been sitting on! Kit (twin sisters name is Kat) was sitting on 16 eggs! We candled them and only 5 were developing. We moved her and her eggs to a brooder so she is now safely in the coop!
We also have 3 other broody chickens! We had a few chicks hatch today so we tried to give them to the broodies. Nutmeg (below) has raised babies before a did a fabulous job and accepted the babies right away. Skittles and Cheeto wanted nothing to do with the babies, so Nutmeg got all of them.
Skittles has been pretty serious about being broody, so we put her in the brooder and gave her a few of Kits eggs. Hopefully they will co parent and all will be well.
Not an Instagram worthy pic, but our kids collected 6 dozen eggs this afternoon!
Stop by for some fresh eggs before they all sell!
Both of our frizzle Easter eggers were sharing a nest box this morning when I went to collect eggs!
We can get some interesting shaped eggs sometimes. Here is a very pointy one from the other day.
We currently have 3 dozen down in the stand from this morning!
