Hi all. Did you know I have a masters in speech language pathology from Columbia University? I’ve been practicing for about 20 years. I don’t typically advertise my speech therapy skills because there seems to be so many people that need it; however I am now bridging health and wellness with vagus nerve, education, and speech pathology. Worried about osteoporosis? Do you want to be able to absorb calcium? This is what you need to happen:
☀ Adequate Vitamin D (40-50 on blood work)
☀ Adequate Vitamin K2
☀ Adequate Stomach Acid (If your chloride levels are below 100 on blood work and your thiamine and zinc levels are low then you wouldn't be making adequate stomach acid. ALSO.....If you are taking stomach acid suppressors such as TUMS, or Proton Pump Inhibitors for more than 2 weeks this would decrease your stomach acid levels and therefore ability to absorb calcium. Yikes!

In 2007 I was diagnosed with IBS and so began my journey of restrictive dieting, supplements galore, and going from doctors to nutritionists to healers of all kinds to help me, but really my issues started well before 2007. As a child, I had constant rashes and immune issues, and I developed insomnia in high school. I grew dangerously close to not sleeping through college, to the point of hallucinating. I developed hormonal issues and more digestive issues along the way.
I have much better sleep now and continue to improve my health.
What I have learned from my journey has led me to a series of introspective questions and realizations. What was at the root of it?
🧘 Although eliminating foods would result in fewer symptoms my digestive issues weren’t going away; could there be something spiritual or karmic that wasn’t allowing me to let go of my issues?
🧘What was really going on here? I have come to realize that being a perfectionist, highly -driven, work and goal- oriented, self-critical, constantly going, anxious, negative thinker was leading to guilt and shame which were my real root causes.
🧘The journey to change my mind-set, build healthy routines, learn ways to release emotions carrying negative charges, and improve my relationship with myself and with food continues to lead me towards true healing and inner peace. It isn't just about the diet. It's so much more! That's what my coaching is about.

That's me getting my vitamin D! Did you know that popping ant-acids like TUMS inhibits your body's ability to absorb vitamin D? That's why I don't advocate for taking Proton Pump Inhibitors long-term. They are meant to be used for max two weeks!! How are docs giving these out to patients for years is beyond me?!
We need vitamin D for:
☀️A healthy immune system
☀️Regulating blood pressure
☀️Preventing autoimmune disorders
☀️Promoting protein synthesis in muscles
☀️Promoting mitochondrial function
There is a debate about what the best level of vitamin D is. When I look at blood work I like to see 50 to 70 with 40 is a bottom baseline which varies among practitioners. Across the board, if yours is at 20, there is a problem.

REST WORK. I’m a doer. This is me “doing” rest work. It’s when I tune into my body, my breath, and put the phone away. No scrolling and no doing anything. It’s a 15 min a day pause. I find it helping my digestion and my thyroid. I call it “rest work” because of my need for accomplishment and checking achievements off a list. I learned it from a wise teacher in a recent thyroid class who said her compulsive need for doing led her to calling “work” so that she would actually do it 😊🙏🧘🏻♀️

May not look like much, but this was delish and just what my body needed! Congee is essentially grain ( here rice) that has been cooked in a 8:1 ratio so it’s soupy and easy to digest. I feel like white rice gets a bad wrap, but if your tummy is sensitive, it’s easy to digest and cooking it with all that water makes it like it’s pre-digested so super easy when you have a digestive issue going on like I do today!
I added some special herbal ingredients including Chinese herbs from my acupuncturist along with Shiso ( Japanese wild edible that has been naturalized here). Shiso is full of minerals and Astragalus root slices as an adaptogen ( great for stress) and immune system tonic which is also great for the thyroid. Ginger, scallions, turmeric, wild Spicebush berries and carrots gave it a nice touch. Had some steamed chicken with it for protein.

Two of my favorite plants for leaky gut, Chron's, and Colitis.
Plantain (Plantago major and Plantago lanceolata) along with Calendula (Calendula officinalis). 🌿
🌿Plantain is wonderful because it's abundant! AND NO, I am not talking about the banana like fruit but the plant growing on most people's lawns. It is a wonderful first aid remedy but what it does to the outside of the skin it also does on the inside. So alongside a host of vitamin and fiber benefits, it also heals and repairs the gut. The leaves are great to use, I also eat the seeds which contain psyllium. If you do not know how to identify it, it can be purchased. I prefer fresh to dry when possible. My favorite way to take it internally is in a tea but powder also works.
🌿Calendula is a wonderful plant that is anti-fungal and anti-bacterial. It promotes cell repair and has anti-inflammatory properties. Along with plantain it is great for healing and repairing the skin and also the gut! We use the flowers as medicine. Tea is my favorite way to consume it but powder also works.
