Today is Women Veterans Day, which marks the anniversary of the enactment of the Women's Armed Services Integration Act. Thousands of American women served in formal, uniformed service to the U.S. Army in WWI and WWII - but as contract employees or auxiliary forces. They were not granted the full rank, privileges and benefits of their service. This year we celebrate the 76th anniversary of the act, which allowed women to become permanent, full-time members of the U.S. Army.
