Kristin's Loft
Rediscovering the artist in me. So I've recently ignited a passion for painting. Seeing painting in a positive light for me comes as a major surprise. Oops.
Let me go back for a minute. Back 22 years. I was going to school as an Interior Design major. It helped combine my love and appreciation for drawing, art, and architecture. Well, it also included courses where I had to paint. With a tendency to be a perfectionist, I hated paint. You couldn't erase it. I seriously had no love for paint. Heck, I even froze my paints when I left my ArtBin in the car

Setting up and painting with watercolour is relatively simple in terms of what you need to get started - water, a brush, and some pans or tubes of colour. But what if you want to take it a little further?
Watercolour mediums can help you control how watercolour paint behaves, including its texture, how it flows, how it lifts from the paper, and how fast it dries.
From creating impasto effects to increasing the drying time of your paint, find out all about watercolour mediums on our blog: https://www.jacksonsart.com/blog/2021/04/09/a-guide-to-watercolour-mediums/
Jane’s Grey is a unique color in the market. Most grays, whether Payne’s Gray, Neutral Tint or others, are made with a black pigment, and often phthalo blue is included. Artist Jane Blundell wanted a gray without the often-dulling effect of a black pigment, and without the staining effects of phthalo blue. She wanted a gray that was liftable and granulating to create the lovely look of stormy skies and softened shadows.
Know more about Jane’s Grey from the master artist Jane Blundell Jane Blundell Artist herself tomorrow at our Friday LIVE Session with John at 10:30 am Seattle Time.

👀🔬 A brief check-up! “The Starry Night” recently took a visit to conservation for special analysis.
Anny Aviram, senior paintings conservator, is pictured here checking the surface with a microscope to confirm that all the paint layers are stable.

The painting’s new home in Gallery 502 is dedicated to a 1931 bequest of over 150 works from Lillie P. Bliss, one of three intrepid women who founded MoMA. An advocate for modern art, Bliss had sought out the work of mostly late-nineteenth-century French artists whose radical approaches to color, space, and form were controversial at the time.
