Team Training | 08/12/24 | Radios & Communication
Tonight's training focused on mastering our radios and best practices for team communication. We dove into a presentation on how our radios work, followed by a hands-on exercise that put our skills to the test.
Teams were given random images with shapes, colors, and alphanumeric characters, and had to use their radios to describe these pictures to the command team. The final comparison between the original drawings and what was recreated on the whiteboard highlighted the importance of clear communication and attentive listening. Another great training that strengthens our ability to work together and communicate effectively!

A HUGE thank you to AnnMarie Barragan for her extremely generous donation to our San Benito County Search & Rescue!!
AnnMarie not only donated money to help the volunteers secure supplies, travel and train…but she also bought them a brand new boat motor. This HBI boat with new Mercury motor will assist us in water rescue not just here locally, but throughout the state.

It was a great day at the Community Emergency Preparedness Fair, connecting with our wonderful community sharing what Search and Rescue does and providing valuable insights on what to do if you ever find yourself lost in the wilderness.

2023 National Night Out
On July 22 2023, the San Benito County Search and Rescue team had an off-road OHV training and type qualifications at Hollister Hills State Vehicular Recreation Area. The team trained on a variety of skills and completed the days objectives.

This weekend, seven of our members responded to the multiday mutual aid request in San Luis Obispo County. All our members have safely returned home. We are glad to have been a part of these efforts to help.

SO/SAR instructed “Light Search & Rescue Operations” for the San Benito County Community Emergency Response Team (CERT).
This training covered many of the basics SAR techniques for disaster response to include: scene size up, search marking, cribbing, rescue knots and personnel carries.

SAR members conducted training on medical care.
No we are not EMTs however covering basic lifesaving skills can be critical for survival and rescue depending on the situation. Topics such as bleeding control, airway management, splinting, shock treatment and general care are some of the areas covered.

San Felipe Area of San Benito County.
High Wind advisory is also in place. Please plan ahead for yourself, family, friends and pets - move livestock/animals to higher ground for safety.
An Evacuation Center will be opening at 5:00 P.M. today, 3/9/2023, at Hollister Migrant Housing Center, 3235 Southside Road, Hollister. Call 9-1-1 for life threatening emergencies.
Commuters please allow extra time to get to/from work. Roads/highways flooding is likely. Do not pass through Road Closed areas. Wipers On, Headlights On.

SAR had three members officially sworn in by San Benito County Sheriff’s Office (SBCSO) making them official members of our team. After the oath we conducted training on radio operations, provided by San Benito County Amateur Radio Association (RACES). Covering basic radio operations, repeaters, emergency operations of radios, frequencies and more. We would like to give a big thanks to everyone for this event.

Members of SAR trained on the use of SARTOPO.
SARTOPO is a mapping tool used by Search & Rescue that allows team members to track their location, plot points, give routes/grid coordinates and more. It can be used by multiple users at once to be able to work as a team, also allowing an incident commander to have an overview picture of the situation.
