Herbal prokinetics can be borderline MIRACULOUS for bloating, constipation, diarrhea, FODMAP intolerance, carbohydrate intolerance, and IBS and SIBO symptoms. In my clinical experience, 98% of people with IBS and SIBO find an herbal prokinetic that they love (yes, I track that data from my patients and students). But, once you find "the one," how long do you have to stay on it? A few months? Years? Forever??

If you have SIBO, you've surely heard of the migrating motor complex or MMC. The MMC is a type of motility that cleans or sweeps the small intestine clean. So, keeping this MMC working optimally is CRITICAL for SIBO recovery and/or eradication. That's where fasting comes into play.
It's said that the MMC only kicks in when you've been in a fasted state for at least 3 hours, so you should space your meals accordingly. But what about when you struggle with hypoglycemia (low blood sugar)? Which one should you prioritize? Can you fix your MMC while still managing hypoglycemia?

Strategies varied from one health practitioner to another and they can also affect us in different ways. Sometimes, it may shorten your treatment period or the opposite. Is it worth doing this test if you're looking to test for SIBO...? Stay tuned to find out!

Let's talk about histamine and mast cells in the gut! There is a lot of research showing that people with IBS (and therefore, probably SIBO) 1. have more mast cells in their guts and 2. the mast cells that they have in their guts are more reactive than "normal" people. But does this mean that everybody with IBS or SIBO needs to follow the low histamine diet? Does it mean that the savior for all with IBS is quercetin..? Stay tuned as we revisit histamine and the gut.

If you're trying to treat dysbiosis, candida, or sibo you NEED to emphasize plant diversity in your diet. But what if that's easier said than done? What if you don't like vegetables (GASP)? What if you're still working on building tolerance, and you can't eat full doses of a lot of veggies (because of FODMAPs or otherwise)? In comes the veggie mash-up! Initially proposed by Datis Kharrazian, the veggie mash-up is an easy way to get BOATLOADS of veggies in your diet every single day.
BUT, does it do what we want it to do for dysbiosis? Does it actually increase the diversity of the gut microbiome? I underwent a series of stool tests to determine just that! Stay tuned to find out the results! ;)
