I found an old toolbox from our studio on A Street in Fort Point Channel—before cellphones, before the high-rise buildings & $5K/mo apartments…before the complete revitalization of the Boston Seaport. Back when Fort Point was all parking lots and Jimmy’s Harborside, the No Name, and the Barking Crab ruled the seaport. Back when the ‘ar Bar was the only dive in town and there were a ton of artists living in the basements of the warehouses in the Leather District. We worked for and were trading studio space for teaching art to high school students. We taught them scenic painting, they taught us graffiti and anime techniques—skills that I’ve used countless times on projects. I often wonder where those kids (now adults in their 30s) are today.

Anyone local want a random backdrop? It’s approximately 10’x16’ and is a hand painted image of the Mississippi River at sunset. It’s wrinkled but will flatten out when stapled to a wall on all sides and lightly sprayed with warm water.

I painted this in 1998 for Macy’s Christmas windows, and yes, I’ve been hauling it around for 26 years. Enough!

I wouldn’t hang it outside, but it would be awesome on an interior wall—could even be adhered with wallpaper paste. It’s medium-weight muslin, so 100% cotton. There’s cracks from being folded forever, but they’re not terrible.

Reusing marbleized canvases for Figure Drawing—superimposing charcoal drawings on top. Whatever happens, happens. This is fun! 🤩

As many folks know, my studio is in an old Victorian in Holyoke (owned by my dad). Except for the boilers and water heaters, zero upgrades have been made to this house in nearly 30 years. Cut to today—I hung this spectacular Elvis photo that my sister’s ex bought at a yard sale and gifted to me in the ‘90s (best birthday present EVER)! Found an existing nail in the wall & voila! Decor is complete. 🤩
