We’re celebrating the outstanding career of Chuck Penuel, AIA, NCARB! Highlights include:

📐 cultivating relationships with esteemed healthcare partners St. Vincent’s Health System () + Noland Health Services

📐 several volunteer positions with American institute of Architects ( ) and the Alabama Registration Board of Architects

📐 and most notably, co-founding Birchfield Penuel Architects with Clay Birchfield in 1987.

His 37 years of leadership, alongside Clay, established BPA as a prominent healthcare architecture firm based in central Alabama. We bittersweetly announce his “retirement” as a managing principal and proudly bestow the titles “Founder & Principal Emeritus” to convey his evolving role within BPA. As a consultant, he will continue to impart wisdom, contribute to creative solutions, and bring his cheerful demeanor.

The 5,500 SF project provided new classrooms, offices, observation rooms, and research spaces as the center transitioned into a new-to-them building. Our design facilitates the center's "learn by doing" philosophy by creating bright, welcoming spaces that give the child autonomy and flexibility in opportunities to learn and grow and provide research spaces for students and faculty.

Last week, we celebrated the grand opening of the Ascension St. Vincent's East Free Standing Emergency Department in Trussville, Alabama. The 16,800-square-foot facility will help transform healthcare access within and beyond the Trussville community. We are honored to have played a role in creating a space that will serve its community tremendously.

If you haven't heard, we have some big news! Our office got a serious facelift, and it's not just about looking good – it's about creating the perfect work atmosphere. We busted down some walls, letting gorgeous filtered sunlight in through sleek louvers, and added some natural textures with slate cladding.

But that's not all – our facade got a modern makeover, elevating our daytime aesthetic and turning our office into a mesmerizing lantern at night. We are pumped to dive into work in our revamped 2805 building! 🚀
