Who else wishes they could be basking in the sun like this Hawaiian monk seal? If you’re lucky, you may be able to get a glimpse at this endangered species sleeping on a beach on Oʻahu.

⚠️ Remember - Keep your distance! The Hawaiian monk seal is protected under federal law. NOAA says to “follow the rule of thumb,” by making a thumbs-up and extending your arm straight out. You are far enough away if your thumb covers the entire seal.

The bowling alley opened its doors in 1958 and charged 25 cents per game. It was located where the Kahala McDonalds currently is. Many bowlers said it was the end of an era when Waialae Bowl closed its doors after five decades in business.

The highway offers a breathtaking view overlooking the windward side of Oʻahu.

- There is a myth in Hawaiʻi that says you shouldn’t bring pork across the Pali.

🌋 Legend says the volcano goddess Pele and the demigod Kamapuaʻa who was half-man and half-pig, had a turbulent relationship. They agreed to stay on their respective sides of the island - Pele on the Leeward side and Kamapuaʻa on the Windward side - and never meet again.

Bringing pork across the Pali will anger Pele which may cause you to experience car troubles.
