The Friday to Remember
Good Friday

Good Friday is the day Christians commemorate the suffering and ex*****on of Jesus Christ by the Roman government which was then ruling over Jerusalem.

As Christians, we take this day to solemnly remember and focus on the suffering and death of Jesus Christ. Good Friday is a solemn day wherein people observe fasting and abstain from eating meat. When we say, Good Friday, it is anything but good when you consider what Christ suffered for our sins. Innocent, Jesus was found guilty, received our punishment, and died for our sins.

As the prophet Isaiah wrote,

Isaiah 53:4-6
4Surely He has borne our griefs
And carried our sorrows;
Yet we esteemed Him stricken,
Smitten by God, and afflicted.
5 But He was wounded for our transgressions,
He was bruised for our iniquities;
The chastisement for our peace was upon Him,
And by His stripes we are healed.
6 All we like sheep have gone astray;
We have turned, every one, to his own way;
And the LORD has laid on Him the iniquity of us all.

Good Friday is the observance of what love in action looks like. True love is sacrificial, it costs you something, it is humbling, it gives all for the sake of another. As John recorded, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life” (Jn 3:16).

Good Friday was good for all mankind, but the solemness of what it took to redeem mankind was horrible. It was not good for Jesus, but the Word says, “Looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God” (Heb 12:2).

God demonstrated His great love for us that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. This is what Good Friday commemorates, the great love and length God went to save us. How great is His love toward us that He would sacrifice all to redeem us.

We remember Good Friday and Christ's sacrificial love.

Mountain Moving Faith

Jesus used a challenge to the disciple's faith to teach about the power of faith. He said, "...if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there, and it will move, and nothing will be impossible for you" (Matt 17:20).

A life full of faith and trust in Christ will challenge us to our core. It consistently requires us to move and lead by our faith; faith is first, "for without faith it is impossible to please God" (Heb 11:6). We must come to Him in full assurance, as Paul said to the Ephesians, "that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith..." it is that indwelling witness that gives us confidence; God is "...able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us" (Eph 3:20).

Just as the disciples discovered, the faith walk has its ups and downs, twists and turns, it will challenge what you believe, why you believe, and who do you really trust. The scriptures say, "Faith is the substance of things hoped for the evidence of things not seen" (Heb 11:1). Though I can't see it, I believe, though the world says, "it's impossible" Jesus said, "If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes" (Mark 9:23).

Let's live our faith like we believe all things are possible in Jesus Christ, from faith to faith, every step a trust in Him. Though we don't always see or understand everything completely; we trust in the Lord to see His will fulfilled. Mercy House Church, let us believe by faith in the impossible and trust the Lord to fulfill His purpose and mission in and through us. Amen!
