#splashies! Practice has been getting darker and colder as the days have been getting shorter - and you know what that means! Christmas is just around the corner - only 43 days away, to be exact! Our #splashie crew has been busy setting up a Christmas party to celebrate this awesome year we’ve had together. Thanks to aunty Jenn Keli’i (Lana’s mom) for this directed stretching session! Aunty Jenn is a physical therapist and was kind enough to guide our swimmers through stretching, including the benefits of stretching, how long it should take, and the muscles each stretch addressed. An article by the Mayo Clinic lists the following benefits of stretching and the resulting increase in flexibility: 1) Improve your performance in physical activities; 2) Decrease your risk of injuries; 3) Help your joints move through their full range of motion; 4) Increase muscle blood flow; 5) Enable your muscles to work most effectively; and 6) Improve your ability to do daily. Whether you do static or dynamic stretching, consistency is key - even if it’s just 5 or 10 minutes.
