A kirtan is an ancient Indian call-and-response style song or chant, set to music. It is a way of narrating, describing or reporting and sharing traditional mantras. Mantras are sacred sound forms that have specific focus and energy. They are meant to guide and protect us. The key to success in any form of mantra practice is repetition. Chanting as a group brings people together as a community in a way that other forms of yoga do not have. It creates a sense of connection and unity. Handouts will be provided so that we can chant/play together and create goodwill for all. Feel free to bring instruments to play along, including your voice. All are welcome. Learn what asanas (poses) help to sharpen focus and concentration. Practice balancing strength and stability with relaxation. Yoga is an art, a science, and a philosophy. An intelligent yoga practice builds resilience in the body and mind. With awareness, this resilience can help decrease the risk of injury. In this series, you will learn how to move and feel better in your body. June 3–24 Mondays, 5:30–7:00 pm 6/3: Asana to strengthen the feet, ankles, and knees 6/10: Asana to bring strength and health to the legs and hips 6/17: Asana to strengthen the back and abdominals 6/24: Asana to bring health and balance to the elbows, shoulders, and neck All classes end with relaxation and breath work. 4-session series: $120 Single session: $35 No previous yoga experience needed.
