Restorative Yoga Class with Sound Bath
Led by Gwi-Seok Hong and Marlene Patton
Saturday June 22
4:00–5:30 pm
Suggested Donation: $15–$40
Join us for a special class combining Iyengar Yoga asanas with an immersive sound bath experience. Led by Gwi-Seok Hong, this class will engage participants in supported, recuperative poses accompanied by the beautiful sounds of crystal singing bowls played by Marlene Patton. We will conclude the session with a short vocal toning to support the chakras. We offer this not to deny nor run away from the turbulence of the world, but to nourish ourselves inwardly, so that we can be fully present in all that we do.
This is a fundraiser for Iyengar Yoga Silent Dance Center, a 501(c)(3) non-profit
organization supporting the Iyengar Yoga community in Hawaii since 1977.

Please join Laurie Freed as she plays the ukulele and chants simple kirtan mantras.
A kirtan is an ancient Indian call-and-response style song or chant, set to music.
It is a way of narrating, describing or reporting and sharing traditional mantras. Mantras are sacred sound forms that have specific focus and energy. They are meant to guide and protect us.
The key to success in any form of mantra practice is repetition. Chanting as a group brings people together as a community in a way that other forms of yoga do not have. It creates a sense of connection and unity.
Handouts will be provided so that we can chant/play together and create goodwill for all.
Feel free to bring instruments to play along, including your voice.

Yoga is an art, a science, and a philosophy. An intelligent yoga practice builds resilience in the body and mind. With awareness, this resilience can help decrease the risk of injury. In this series, you will learn how to move and feel better in your body.

Laurie Freed is a Level 2 Certified Iyengar Yoga Teacher. Laurie has a special affinity with athletes. She was a competitive gymnast and dancer early in her life. While she is grateful for the rigor and focus that those disciplines gave her, it wasn’t until she started practicing Iyengar yoga that she understood the necessity of working with the body in a more holistic way for a deeper integration of body, breath, and mind.

Hanuman Jayanti is a Hindu festival that marks the birth of Hanuman, the monkey god known for selfless service and courage.
Hanuman (हनुमान्) is one of the heroes of the Hindu epic the Rāmāyana and he is the embodiment of wisdom (jñāna) and devotion to God (bhakti) as well as courage and fortitude (bālā). He is the force of Yoga that will overpower the ego personified in Ravana and unites Sita, the jiva-atma, with Rama, the param-atma.
BKS Iyengar visited Hawaii and taught at IYSDC in 1987. Hawaii was Guruji’s first stop on a tour of the US en route to the National Iyengar Yoga Convention in Boston.

Yoga for Scoliosis starting soon!
Learn how to adapt āsanas to support scoliosis. Many of us have some degree of curvature of the spine. Often, especially when mild, it is often a result of the asymmetric ways we use our bodies in our daily lives. Other times, it is congenital or developed during adolescence. In all cases, Iyengar Yoga can alleviate discomfort, help minimize the curvature, and address possible accompanying conditions (such as hip or shoulder pain).
