What might happen if your household spent 1 minute with God together this week? This devotional includes 1 Scripture passage, a discussion/reflection question, & a prayer prompt each day. What could God do in your hearts & minds if you spent a minute together each day reading His Word, talking about it, and using His Word to guide your prayer time together?
We continue our virtual tour through UABC KIDtern's tabernacle tent replica with a stop at the Bronze Altar.
Upon entering the gate, one would arrive in the Outer Court. The bronze altar and bronze laver were the only items there. The outer court was the place for atonement, worship, and cleansing in preparation to meet with God. Only priests could enter the Tabernacle. One could not enter the Holy Place without coming by way of the gate, the altar, and the laver.
Throughout the Old Testament, altars were built by people to offer sacrifices & meet with God. It was through the sacrifices of spotless, perfect animals that sinful people were able to dwell with God (Leviticus 17:11). The blood of the animal was important to justify the people before God. Only the finest animal--a perfect one--was good enough. Sacrifices needed to be offered on a regular basis (Hebrews 9:25). The person bringing the offering would put his hand on the head of the lamb while it was sacrificed. This symbolically put the person's sin & guilt onto the animal, and the animal died in his place.
The Bronze Altar was the most-used piece in the Tabernacle. It was not only used for sin & guilt offerings, but for gift & peace offerings, as well.
The Bronze Altar was 7.5 ft x 7.5 ft x 4.5 ft. It was made of wood and covered with bronze. It is also known as the Altar of Burnt Offering
Happy Sukkot! We celebrate Biblical feasts as a church family, because they help us slow down and remember who God is and what God has done for us in Jesus.
During our Family Feast Night for Sukkot, we decorated our sukkah together by writing ways God had provided for us on cut out pieces of fruit. We also had some ono Korean fried chicken, as a tasty reminder of how God provided quail for His people in the wilderness.
Spread the word! Our fall carnival for young keiki (3rd grade and younger) is next Saturday from 4 PM-6 PM!
Over fall break, UABC KIDterns built a replica of the tabernacle tent. Over coming days, we will walk you through the tabernacle and how it all points to Jesus!
The only way through the 7.5 ft. fence surrounding the Tabernacle & Outer Court was through the gate.
Happy Sukkot! We celebrate Biblical feasts as a church family, because they help us stop, slow down, and remember who God is and what God has done for us through Jesus!
Sukkot was the final fall feast. It was a time to joyfully celebrate God's provision after all the fall crops had been gathered, and a time to remember our dependance on God for all we need.
We were so happy to have a BUNCH of freshly harvested bananas to celebrate Sukkot together!
Happy Sukkot! We celebrate Biblical feasts as a church family, because they remind us of who God is and what God has done for us through Jesus.
Sukkot has many names: Feast of Tabernacles (or Booths), Feast of Ingathering, The Feast, and the Season of Rejoicing. It is a feast of great joy—a time to stop & celebrate all the ways God provides for us and is present with us. It is a holiday of great thanksgiving. God was present with & provided for His people in the wilderness. God is present with & provides for us, still today.
God is the best party planner! God planned the Sukkot celebration for His people. You can read God's party plan in Leviticus 23 & Numbers 29.
The dedication of the first temple was during The Feast (1 Kings 8:2-11). The Feast was celebrated after God's people returned from exile in Persia (Ezra 3 & Nehemiah 8).
Several O.T. prophets used The Feast to describe God's Coming Kingdom, the marriage feast of God with His Bride.
During the intertestamental period, some additional traditions were added to The Feast celebration, including the water-pouring ceremony & the lighting of 4 giant menorahs at the temple.
Jesus celebrated The Feast. It was when Jesus was in Jerusalem during the Feast that He announced, "I am the light of the world..." (John 8:12) and "If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. He who believes in Me...out of his heart will flows rivers of living water." (John 7:27-39a).
Sukkot is a time of great joy for us, as we remember the gift of living water, God's Spirit, given to anyone who believes in Jesus as their Rescuer, King, & Friend. God's Spirit dwells in us, guides us, transforms us, and is God's seal on us as His eternal kingdom family (Ephesians 1:13-14).
During Sukkot, we celebrate the light of life we receive through faith in Jesus' life, death, and resurrection. We also look forward to God's Coming Kingdom when, "The city [will have] no need of the sun or of the moon to shine in it, for the glory of God illuminate[s] it. The Lamb is its light. And the nations of those who are saved shall walk in its light, and the kings of the earth bring their glory and honor into it." (Revelation 21:23-24)
UABC Kidterns shared the last 24 chapters of Exodus with a familiar tune during our Family Feast Night!
KIDtern Week continues! Today we explored 7 ways the tabernacle tent points to Jesus. We also looked at the different places in Scripture that describe how The Feast of Tabernacles was (and will be) celebrated.
