๐จI BET YOU DIDNโT KNOW ๐คฏ I recently pulled back the curtain on the FACT that The Federal Reserve (The Fed) does not directly impact mortgage rates when they raise their benchmark Fed Funds Rate. It is wild to see how many people actually believed the Fed had some type of omnipotent monetary power that they could wield with a flick of switch and change interest rates everywhere. NOPE. . . Now that I shined light on what really happens when the Fed raises the Fed Funds, I want expose some more TRUTH. In this video I explain how mortgage rates DO NOT rise or fall. Instead what actually happens is all mortgage rates become either more expensive or cheaper. This is because mortgage rates, and their price, are derived from specific mortgage bond coupons. Depending on a number of factors, bond investors will buy or sell certain coupons based on their price and yield (rate). This liquidity, or capital in flow, to certain bonds is what makes mortgage rates more expensive or cheaper. Technically, any rate you want is available at any given time, it is just a matter of what you are willing to pay for that rate โฆ or said differently, what the bond market is willing to pay. . . Do NOT Try This at Home - Wheels Coming Off the US Economy
Today US GDP was reported as negative for Q1 2022.
Recession is defined as two consecutive negative quarters of economic growth.
The economic data is getting worse, not better, so explain to me how Q2 GDP will somehow magically be positive.
This puts the US in recession before autumn 2022.
Meanwhile, the Fed will try navigating a โsoft landingโ by hiking 50 - 75 basis points (0.50 - 0.75%) multiple times into a contracting economy.

The Fed is like the man in the video, telling the consumer โdonโt try this sh!t at homeโ with a silly arrogance that makes you want to laugh - not because itโs funny, but because the state of things actually make you want to cry.

Central Bankers are historically good at creating bubbles and causing recessions.
They are so good at it you canโt help but wonder if thatโs actually their intention.
History certainly supports the argument, but with inflation at 40-year highs and asset bubbles everywhere you look, the Fed, regardless their true motives, is backed into a corner.
Raising rates into a contracting economy, one that is a few months from a confirmed recession, is definitely not something for the faint of heart.
