Family Programs Hawaii
Supporting children and families involved in the foster care system in Hawaii. We help kids!
FPH is a growing vibrant social service agency providing statewide services to almost 4,000 children and families involved in the child welfare system. We provide services to prevent children from entering foster care, support children and families already involved in the foster care system, and assist youth transitioning out of foster care. FPH seeks to create step-by-step comprehensive programs to serve the needs of these children and strengthen families to meet their needs

❤️In recognition of in September, the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption celebrates all kinship caregivers who have stepped forward to provide stability for a child in their lives.
💛Kinship Month is an annual observance that takes place throughout the month of September. Its primary goal is to raise awareness about the vital role that kinship caregivers play in the lives of children and youth who cannot live with their biological parents for various reasons, such as neglect, abuse, or parental incarceration.
🩷 These caregivers are typically relatives such as grandparents, aunts, uncles, and siblings who step in to provide a stable and loving environment for the children in their care. This month is not just a time to acknowledge their selfless contributions but also an opportunity for the entire community to come together and extend our heartfelt gratitude. https://familyprogramshawaii.org/program/wendys-wonderful-kids/
We are so grateful for the team for providing an opportunity for youth that have been placed in separate foster care homes, the ability to get back together and simply spend time with their brother or sister.

Today marks one year since the Maui fires. We want to remember the selfless efforts of the first responders and the local communities for their continued efforts to rebuild the Lahaina area, we sincerely thank you!
Born in Oklahoma, Kenny was placed in foster care after experiencing abuse and neglect. After months of moving in and out of foster homes, Kenny felt afraid for where he might end up. Thankfully, Mary met Kenny and adopted him at age 4.
Though Kenny had the stability of a permanent, loving family, as a child, he struggled with the impact of being in foster care. He had difficulty processing his emotions and trusting those around him. As a response to the experiences he had been through, he’d sometimes act out in anger or frustration.
“When I was in high school, I loved sports, but I also had a lot of feelings of insecurity and a lack of belonging,” recalled Kenny. “I always said I wanted to be an Olympian, but I think at the time, I wasn’t really thinking about what that required. I was just going through the motions.”
When Kenny discovered track and field, he unlocked a new part of himself. He finally had a way to channel his energy into a positive and productive outlet. He defied the odds and started breaking records while running track there, quickly going pro.
Most recently, he qualified for the 2024 Paris Olympics in the 100m, 200m, and 4x100m relay events.
In all of Kenny’s success to date, he credits his past with driving him forward.
“Every single previous version of me is still a part of me, including the trauma from my childhood. I own my past and my present,” said Kenny. “I am who I am, and I’ve achieved what I’ve achieved by buckling down and doing the really tough work — work on myself, working through emotional trauma and setbacks, and tough, hard work on the track.”
His message to those touched by foster care and adoption is one of hope. “I want to inspire others and those who may have similar experiences and promote safety and stability for all children,” said Kenny.

So powerful! Not every child who is adopted will be an Olympian, but every child deserves to have an amazing family who brings out their individual gifts, talents, and God-given potential and allows them to flourish, bloom, and grow! Adoption changes lives. If you would like more information, please contact us. ❤️

We l❤️ve this!
This young man's act of compassion and kindness is truly inspiring. He took the time to pray over every filled Day 1 Bags focusing on foster youth and their happiness. His selfless gesture, lasting a good 10 minutes in solitude aimed to show each child receiving these bags that someone cares deeply for them.
The power of his actions was contagious as each 5th grader joined him in united prayer - hundreds of them… all for foster youth. What a gift!
We are thankful to Vern & Bev, we appreciate all that you do our our community, may you always be blessed!
