Many thanks to our friends Olelo Community Television for helping us to put together this message. Remember, there is no shame in getting help noshamegethelp.org

We’re honored to know you and grateful for your friendship Chad. Thank you for your advocacy.

We're a day early but we couldn't wait to share. October 11th is National Coming Out Day, and as an ally I want to remind you that being from the LGBTQ+ community is not a mental illness, there is nothing wrong with you. Folks from these communities may be at higher risk for experiencing mental health struggles though, which sometimes stem from discrimination, isolation, stigma, and rejection. Coming out is brave. It’s courageous. BUT! It can also be scary, especially if coming out put your safety at risk. Mental Health America has put together a few “coming out” guides which you can access through the link in our bio. Whether you’re out or not, remember that you are loved, you are valued, you are cherished, and you’re exactly who you are supposed to be. And of course, Mental Health America of Hawaii also offers free, online, anonymous mental health screenings through the link in our bio, you can also find them by visiting www.noshamegethelp.org. If you need help finding a service, feel free to call our statewide office at 808.521.1846, or if you live in Maui County, 808.242.6461.

Today is World Mental Health Day and there are some ways you can recognize this day! Take a free online screening (link in bio). Reach out to a friend who’s struggling. Volunteer or donate to your favorite nonprofit. Practice self-care. Spend a few minutes in the sun. Tell someone they matter. Remind someone they’re loved. Thank someone for being here.
