Posting this so all parents/guardians are on the same page.
This morning, as we arrived back from the All-Nighter at Woodstock Wesleyan Church we were met with a couple of border patrol officers who may-or-may-not have been on a bit of a power trip. We avoid name-calling as much as possible but today was a textbook power trip case. We were told that all children MUST have photo ID or nexus cards when crossing (Not true. Nexus cards are completely optional and photo ID is only for persons ages 17+). We were told all permission forms need to be officially notarized (somewhat true. If a child travelling with none of their parents/guardians, then yes, except in cases such as school trips, religious trips, etc., this is a religious trip so no notarization is needed.)
Additionally, one vehicle travelling back had exceptional difficulties. The leader and youth travelling with her were met with hostility for no apparent reason, were asked to exit the vehicle, the vehicle was searched (no illegal substances were found...obviously), and the leader and youth were tested for substances. One youth continued to fail the test due to improper administration and high potassium levels. Guess which foods this youth had a lot of during the night...BANANAS. After some conversation, the officers realized their mistake and allowed the group to leave. All vehicles made their way back to the church where everything is completely fine and there is nothing to worry about.
We wanted to share this before rumors begin spreading or misinformation is given. We take the safety and security of your children very seriously and it is our highest priority to ensure travel between events is done so carefully and safely. If there are any questions, comments, or concerned, please feel free to message our Facebook group or Pastor Andrew directly.
Blessings and stay safe during the snow this weekend!
Some have been concerned about snow interfering with tonight's all-nighter at Woodstock Wesleyan Church. The all-night is STILL A GO! Snow will not be coming until mid-morning tomorrow and we will be back in Houlton well before the roads get bad!
Tonight's gonna be great! Looking forward to seeing everyone involved!
