Today, our team, along with Gerardo Barrios University met with the community leaders of La Pelota, Ospina and Tables to talk about the pilot program Eco-Store, design to incentivize the community to protect the environment through recycling. The program will launch in October. In addition, we talked about our October 19th Día del Niño event, also being held in the community.

Hoy, nuestro equipo, junto con La Universidad de Gerardo Barrios, se reunió con los líderes comunitarios de La Pelota, Ospina y Tables para hablar sobre el programa piloto Eco-Store, diseñado para incentivar a la comunidad a proteger el medio ambiente a través del reciclaje. El programa se lanzará en octubre. Además, hablamos sobre nuestro evento del Día del Niño del 19 de octubre, que también se lleva a cabo en la comunidad.

If you donated toys and shoes during our Christmas in July Run at thank you. We gave some away on Saturday during our Christmas in July/Navidad en julio Run in El Salvador. The rest will be given away in October for our Día del Niño and annual Christmas Toys distribution.

In January, we made an agreement with our community leaders from Canton Miraflores that if the community attended every wellness walk that we would pay for their transportation to attend the Christmas in July Run in Olomega (another one of our communities). These kids did attend every wellness walk, but were not able to attend our event in Olomega. This morning we gave them a medal and shirt for their commitment over the few months.

En enero, llegamos a un acuerdo con los líderes de Canton Miraflores que si la comunidad asistían a todas las caminatas de bienestar, les pagaríamos el transporte para asistir Navidad en julio Run en Olomega (otra de nuestras comunidades). Estos niños asistieron a todas las caminatas de bienestar, pero no pudieron asistir a nuestro evento en Olomega. Esta mañana les entregamos una medalla y una camiseta por su compromiso durante los últimos meses.

In addition to these longer-term initiatives, Friends of El Salvador provides seasonal programming to communities in San Miguel and La Union, El Salvador through Christmas toys and food distribution. Each year Friends of El Salvador donates over 3,000 toys and 300 food and toiletry baskets to these communities. And just last year, we launched our monthly health and wellness initiatives, empowering communities to maintain an active lifestyle to prevent diseases.

This work is only possible thanks to the generous support and contributions of organizations, local businesses, and individuals in the community.
