8 years ago today, Cody Rhodes was released by the WWE.

He asked for his release and was granted it.

Cody was stuck being stardust, wanted to go back to being Cody Rhodes and Vince McMahon denied the request.

Cody would then leave the WWE and become the star he always thought he could be.

He would join the bullet club and become friends with the Elite.

He would go on to win the IWGP United States championship.

He would go on to win the ROH world championship.

He would go on to win the NWA world heavyweight championship.

He also would help start AEW as a VP and as a star wrestler.

But in the end, he had to prove something.

To those that doubted him 8 years ago.

He left AEW where he could have stayed for the rest of his career and had a simple life.

But Cody wanted to prove that he COULD BE THE GUY !

That he is good enough to be the face of the WWE.

That he’s good enough to win the championship that his father never could…

Cody would win back to back royal rumbles

First losing at WM 39…

And then FINALLY finishing his story by becoming the WWE champion at WM 40 !

It’s obvious that Cody bet on himself and was right !

WWE RAW RESULTS: (MAY 27, 2024)

- Liv Morgan Kissed Dominik after he accidentally helped Liv win over Becky Lynch in a cage match. 👀

- Bronson Reed defeated Otis. Post match, Gable berates Otis for lacking discipline and prepares to punish him with a belt, ordering Tozawa and Maxxine Dupri to watch. Maxxine intervenes, but Gable dismisses her and winds up to strike Otis again. Sami Zayn arrives, challenges Gable, and calls him out for blaming others for his failures. Gable shoves Sami, they brawl, and Gable beats Sami down with Otis watching in frustration. After the beatdown, Gable leaves with Tozawa, and Otis follows reluctantly, separated from the others.

- Ludwig Kaiser introduces GUNTHER as the new King of the Ring. Judgment Day (Damian Priest, Finn Balor, and JD McDonagh) interrupt, with Priest claiming GUNTHER didn’t truly beat Orton and challenging his legitimacy. GUNTHER retorts that he’s ready to prove himself.

- Drew McIntyre enters, asserting his status as the #1 contender and taunting Priest about Judgment Day’s recent struggles. Priest tries to provoke McIntyre, who warns him about facing a hostile UK crowd. Braun Strowman then appears, causing McIntyre to leave as tensions rise before the break.

- Braun Strowman def. JD by pinfall with a running powerslam. Post-match, Carlito and Finn try to beat Braun but he shrugs them off and clears the ring.

- Liv Morgan is seen talking to JD backstage. Braun is still mad with JD and chases him off.

- Ilja Dragunov vs. Ricochet ends in a DQ as Bron Breakker interferes the match.

- Authors of Pain def. Creed Brothers.

- Lyra Valkyria def. Kairi Sane by pinfall with a crucifix pin.

- Rey Mysterio def. Carlito. Post-match, Mysterio throws Finn into the announce desk and calls Dragon Lee over for help! Lee up top but Damian Priest makes the save and Carlito spits in Dragon’s eye and gets attacked instead.

NEWS: Backstage Update on Roman Reigns' RETURN.

"According to Xero News, the production for the film wraps up next week.As such, Reigns could be back on television sooner than later, and WWE is expected to make an official announcement on the same.

The star was previously reported to be returning during SummerSlam. The reports of his early return will potentially come off as unexpected and a bit of a shocker to fans."
