Dog show friends, with the TGCBTC Specialty shows right around the corner, I would like your thoughts on trimming whiskers for conformation shows.
I know that trimming whiskers gives your dog a smooth, tidy appearance and most all of us have followed that course over the years.
However, after learning so much by being a part of the BTCompass team, I am rethinking this whisker thing!
www.BTCompass.com includes an article on the Bull Terrier Coat which discusses the true purpose of whiskers. A good portion of a dog's brain is devoted to processing data from touch sensors and almost 40% of the brain's sensory area aligns with parts of the body that have whiskers!
I am curious to know what you think about trimming whiskers and would welcome your comments. Do we continue to remove them as we always have? Or leave them to help our dogs navigate their world?
The Bull Terrier Compass Our BTCompass Team officially began our adventure in January of 2023. There were many days of one step forward and two steps back. As we collected and cataloged information, we realized the monumental challenge we were undertaking; we needed a map and compass to guide us. Fortunately, as a 501(c)3 n...

Thanks to everyone who participated in the 2022 Winter Festibull! Your help and dedication to the Club once again paid off with a very successful event. We had over 40 guests in attendance and raised $1657.73 for rescue.
To update you on rescue, TGCBTR is closed to intake and is working towards placing the last 2 dogs who are in foster care. There is also one female in hospice care. Once the dogs in foster care are placed and a plan for the girl in hospice is finalized, the business end of closing the 501(c)3 with the IRS will be taken care of.
It was very obvious Saturday that we continue to have the greatest group of caring club members. The comradery of our members who came together to do what we do so well is still just as amazing as ever. The atmosphere was contagious, and I believe this is why we had 4 new families express interest in joining the club!
Education on our breed is so very important and Saturday also gave us the opportunity to discuss health and recommendations on breeders for those who came looking for a new puppy! People were also excited to have an opportunity to speak with the CGC trainer about training for their dogs.
I hope that you agree that the time we spend together as friends sharing our common passion is one of the most important parts of life. We worked hard but laughed a lot! It was truly a day for making memories and being good ambassadors for the breed. Hats off to all of you!
Also, please remember that the club Christmas Party will be on Saturday, December 3rd at Chuy's Westchase, 9350 Westheimer Rd., Houston, TX 77063. The club will be providing a fajita buffet and there will be a cash bar. The always popular white elephant gift exchange will also take place. If you want to participate, bring a wrapped gift for each person in your party to swap. All types of gifts are welcome for dogs or people but please keep the $$ affordable. RSVP's are required.
Thank you and see you in December,
Great news for Saturday's FESTIBULL!!
Thank you NICK'S PIKS and URBAN BICYCLE GALLERY for donating another awesome bike.
Who will be the lucky winner this year?

Have you heard of Barn Hunt?
Wondered how to get involved?
Just looking for something to do with your dog to get out of the summer heat??
We have an opportunity to have a free class + fun runs at Texas Rat Masters in Katy TX on August 27th!
Barn Hunt involves sniffing out safely-secured pet rats in PVC tubes hidden among hay bales. The dogs must also go through a tunnel constructed by hay bales and climb on the bales with all 4 paws at least once. There are varying levels of difficulty and you are timed!
In our class with TRM, they’ll provide an introduction to the sport and the general rules, as well as giving your dogs the opportunity to try barn hunt.
Here’s a couple of clips of Custard, the Miniature Bull Terrier, playing Barn Hunt! Custard has earned the second level title, Open, in Barn Hunt and she may or may not trance in tunnels. 😉
In the video, there is a full qualifying Novice level run (1 rat) and a couple of clips of Custard being a bullie!
Let us know in the comments if you’re interested in attending this class!
Last call for TGCBTC Annual Meeting and Banquet on Saturday July 23rd.
Order must be turned in tomorrow so please RSVP at www.texasbullterrier.org if you plan to attend.
